This role is ideal for someone who enjoys designing reliable, high-performance systems and taking ownership of backend architecture in a high-growth B2B SaaS environment.\nYou’ll work closely with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to deliver systems that are fast, resilient, and deeply aligned with customer needs.\nAbout the Role\nThis is a high-ownership role that blends:\nBackend system design and distributed architecture\n\nInfrastructure, scalability, and performance optimization\n\nProduct-focused engineering and problem solving\n\nCross-functional collaboration across product and customer teams\n\nYou’ll play a key role in shaping the systems that power Feathery’s platform - ensuring they are reliable, scalable, and built to handle complex, real-world use cases.\nWhat You’ll Do\nBackend Systems & Infrastructure\nDesign, build, and scale backend services that power document processing and workflow automation\n\nDevelop asynchronous pipelines and distributed systems for handling large volumes of data\n\nBuild and maintain infrastructure using AWS services and queueing systems (e.g., SQS)\n\nEnsure high availability, fault tolerance, and observability across systems\n\nOptimize systems for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency\n\nData Processing & Platform Capabilities\nBuild systems for processing and transforming structured and unstructured data\n\nIntegrate external services such as OCR and AI models where appropriate\n\nImprove reliability and throughput of document and data processing pipelines\n\nContribute to APIs and internal services that power the product\n\nProduct & Cross-Functional Collaboration\nWork closely with product to define requirements and ship impactful features\n\nCollaborate with frontend and customer-facing teams to support new use cases\n\nHelp translate complex customer needs into scalable backend solutions\n\nContribute to product planning and technical scoping\n\nTechnical Leadership\nTake ownership of key backend systems and architecture decisions\n\nMentor other engineers and contribute to engineering best practices\n\nHelp improve code quality, testing, and deployment processes\n\nStay up to date with modern backend and infrastructure technologies\n\nAbout You\n4-7+ years of experience building and scaling backend systems\n\nStrong proficiency in backend frameworks such as Node.js, Django, or similar\n\nExperience designing distributed systems and asynchronous processing pipelines\n\nSolid experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure\n\nStrong understanding of system performance, reliability, and observability\n\nExperience building production-grade APIs and services\n\nComfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment\n\nStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams\n\nBonus\nExperience building data processing or ETL pipelines\n\nFamiliarity with document processing, OCR, or AI/ML integrations\n\nExperience with queueing systems (e.g., SQS) and event-driven architectures\n\nExperience optimizing systems for high throughput and low latency\n\nBackground in financial services, insurance, or other data-intensive industries\n\nExperience at a high-growth B2B SaaS company\n\nWhat We Offer\nCompetitive compensation and equity\n\nHealth, dental, and vision coverage\n\nUnlimited PTO\n\nDowntown Toronto office location\n\nOffice snacks and lunches\n\nA supportive, low-ego team that values ownership and growth\n\nCompany offsite to connect and recharge\n\nFeathery is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or any other legally protected characteristic.
