Each engineering assistant is assigned an experienced engineer as a direct mentor who provides project tasks, training and guidance. The role engages the engineering assistant in powertrain development through testing and data analysis, as well as project team and customer interaction. The engineering assistant will have the opportunity to participate in internal FEV training and team activities. Based on the benefit for the employee to become deeply involved in a customer project and the opportunity to gain more responsibility as their experience grows, FEV prefers an internship duration of six months to one year. Opportunities to expand involvement into calibration or additional development tasks will be provided to high performing and motivated assistants with the consideration for full time hire at the completion of the internship period.\nWe are currently looking for students who are available for internships (6 -month or 1 year based on availability)\nResponsibilities:\nSupport vehicle testing on road and on chassis dynamometer, including conventional and hybrid configurations\nAssist and interact with operations staff in execution of testing tasks\nData processing and analysis\nSupport customer hardware and project component inventory and logistics\nPrepare internal team and customer presentations\nAbility to support second or third shift testing if required\nRequirements\nRequired Qualifications:\nCandidates pursuing a master’s or bachelor’s degree in mechanical or automotive engineering\nStrong engineering fundamentals: fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer\nBasic understanding of internal combustion engines and aftertreatment systems\nSkilled in handling MS-Word, Excel and PowerPoint\nBasic understanding in MS Excel macro or Matlab scripting\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience in vehicle level performance or emission testing\nExposure to vehicle level emission or drivability or OBDII calibration\nHands-on experience with engine hardware engine assembly or rebuilding\nKnowledge in US legislation for emissions, fuel economy and OBD\nFamiliarity with regulatory language used in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and/or California Code of Regulations (CCR)\nProfessional communication skills (oral and written)\nMust be motivated team player to perform in fast paced development environment\nHighly proficient in spoken and written
