This role works within the Engineering department and provides direct support to the provisioning team to help ensure accurate, on-time service delivery.\nEssential Job Functions\nLayer 2 and Layer 3 Configuration\nConfigure Layer 2 services including Ethernet, MPLS, and EVPL circuits on Cisco and Juniper platforms. \nConfigure and verify Layer 3 services including BGP and ISIS routing for customer-facing and backbone services. \nFollow design specifications and process documentation when configuring network devices. \nTroubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 configuration issues and escalate complex problems to senior engineers. \nCoordinate test and turn-up activities with the NOC and customers as required. \nDatabase and Records Management\nUpdate and maintain circuit records in network management and inventory systems such as Carma, 3GIS, SiteTracker, and SolarWinds to reflect current network configurations. \nVerify that circuit builds match design documentation and update records to reflect the correct state. \nProcess circuit disconnect and decommission updates, including marking circuits as Pending Decommission and removing decommissioned devices from monitoring systems. \nIdentify and resolve discrepancies between network records and actual device configurations. \nWork with project managers, design teams, and provisioning engineers to keep records accurate throughout the service lifecycle. \nMaintenance Windows\nParticipate in overnight maintenance windows to implement network changes with minimal service impact. \nExecute change procedures on routers, switches, and other network equipment following approved maintenance plans. \nCoordinate with the NOC during maintenance activities and document outcomes after each window. \nProvisioning Support\nSupport the provisioning team with circuit activations, service migrations, and service turn-up tasks. \nServe as an escalation point for the NOC on circuit configuration and service issues. \nDocument configurations, procedures, and completed work clearly and consistently. \nRequirements\n 3 to 7 years of experience in network engineering or telecommunications. \nHands-on experience configuring Layer 2 services, including Ethernet, MPLS, and EVPL. \nWorking knowledge of Layer 3 routing protocols, including BGP and ISIS. \nExperience with Juniper and/or Cisco network equipment. \nExperience using network management and inventory systems (such as Carma, 3GIS, SiteTracker, SolarWinds, or similar platforms). \nAbility to work overnight maintenance windows as needed. \nAssociate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. \nOther Skills and Abilities\nAttention to detail when updating records and validating configurations. \nGood troubleshooting and analytical skills. \nClear written and verbal communication skills. \nAbility to work with cross-functional teams including project managers, design engineers, provisioning staff, and field technicians. \nBasic scripting knowledge (Python or Ansible) for automation tasks is a plus. \nFamiliarity with DWDM platforms such as Ciena is a plus. \nCCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent certifications are a plus.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3415,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"associate","optional":true},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-01T21:23:21Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":87,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.871,"p_room":1,"age_days":4,"expected_fill_days":30,"reasons":["conf:27","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-04T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/fiberlight-network-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/fiberlight-network-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-05T01:07:23Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1431,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":3569,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-06T00:00:00Z"}}}
