Develops software using Java and Scala. Evaluates vendor software and leads technical vendor engagement. Supports development efforts using large data sets, databases, and data visualization tools --Excel VBA and SQL. Applies rapid development approaches to develop enterprise capabilities that deliver robust business solutions. Uses existing components, APIs, and frameworks to speed delivery and increase reliability. Draws on in-depth knowledge of the business or function to provide business unit-wide solutions by developing complex, multi-faceted software applications. Researches and recommends new technologies in support of the strategic direction of the business unit and participates in the research and recommendation of appropriate models, methods, tools, and technologies to achieve business-unit-wide solutions.\nPrimary Responsibilities:\nTranslates and incorporates business vision and strategy to architectural strategy recommendations at the functional level.\nParticipates in high-level, cross- functional architecture design teams.\nIdentifies and consults with internal and external technical resources to produce cross-company strategic designs.\nConsults on development and delivery of major technology initiatives for the business unit.\nConsults on deployment of major project deliverables.\nConsults on the documentation of major technology applications.\nOversees the technical implementation of cross-divisional or company architectural components.\nInitiates and drives project or strategy discussions with users or external groups to resolve issues.\nSets vision, goals, and direction of team/organization.\nPlans and leads organization-wide initiatives.\nProvides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.\nAdvises senior management on technical strategy.\nResearches and recommends new technologies.\nWorks across groups to identify opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives.\nRegularly provides guidance, training, and coaching to other team members for performance and career development.\nIdentifies and plans for future resource needs.\nDetermines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit.\nEducation and Experience:\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing complex, Java-based real time distributed systems within an investment or compliance technology domain.\nOr, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing complex, Java-based real time distributed systems within an investment or compliance technology domain.\n\nSkills and Knowledge:\nCandidate must also possess:\n· Demonstrated Expertise performing analysis, design, and implementation of highly scalable, high-performance investment compliance monitoring systems using event-driven architecture to support low-latency, high-throughput Fund Monitoring (FM), Aggregate Monitoring (AM), and Limit Analysis (LA) workflows for both Time-of-Trade and End-of-Day batch processing, including addressing complex requirements (Fund-of-Funds expansion and derivatives look-through).\n· Demonstrated Expertise performing development of distributed, fault-tolerant, and highly concurrent applications using Pekko (formerly Akka), Scala, and actor-based concurrency models to deliver real-time, enterprise-grade investment compliance solutions.\n· Demonstrated Expertise performing performance optimization and real-time data processing using Aerospike, Oracle database tuning, and scalable real-time ingestion pipelines into Snowflake; and applying Snowflake analytics for downstream compliance workflows.\n· Demonstrated Expertise performing end-to-end observability and performance diagnostics using OpenTelemetry (OTEL) for distributed tracing and metrics, and using Micrometer, DataDog, Grafana, and Prometheus to produce actionable insights into concurrent system behavior and bottlenecks.\nFidelity’s Onsite Working Model\nFidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues.
