We go beyond typical data-driven approaches or pure transformer-only architectures, combining rigorous engineering with learning systems proven in globally deployed solutions that deliver results today and get better every time our robots run in the field.\n\nWe’re looking for a SeniorRobotics Software Engineer, 3D Mapping to design and deploy advanced robot perception and 3D mapping systems at FieldAI. Based in our Irvine office, this is a true robot-in-the-loop role where you will work hands-on with physical robots, real sensors, and real field environments.\n\nFieldAI’s Irvine team sits at the center of Southern California’s robotics ecosystem, building risk-aware, reliable, and field-ready AI systems that operate outside the lab. In this role, you will develop scalable, production-grade point cloud and mapping pipelines that power customer deliverables and globally deployed robotic systems.\n\nYou will own workflows spanning data capture through documentation, integrating laser scanners, validating mapping performance in realistic environments, and continuously improving reliability through rigorous engineering.\nWhat You Get To Do:\nDesign and develop scalable LiDAR mapping algorithms to support autonomous robot operations.\n\nImprove the accuracy, robustness, and scalability of point cloud processing pipelines used in online and offline mapping systems.\n\nDeploy large-scale mapping systems and data processing pipelines in production and ensure efficient and quality customer deliverables.\n\nValidate mapping systems and algorithms through testing on real robots and in large-scale unstructured environments.\n\nCollaborate cross-functionally to meet project-specific documentation requirements and customer expectations.\n\nWhat You Have:\nMaster’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with expertise in robotics and 3D computer vision.\n\nProficiency in C++ and Python, with a proven ability to write maintainable and efficient code in production.\n\nSolid theoretical knowledge of 3D geometry, computer vision and robot kinematics.\n\nSolid understanding of point cloud data structure and related algorithms (e.g., ICP, NDT).\n\nExperience with LiDAR SLAM algorithms and optimization tools such as Ceres, GTSAM, or g2o.\n\nHands-on experience with tools and libraries such as PCL, Open3D, Autoware.\n\nFamiliarity with Robot Operating System (ROS) and software development practices in Ubuntu.\n\nFamiliarity with LiDAR systems and 3D data formats (e.g., PCD, PLY, E57, LAS).\n\nStrong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and able to work independently while managing multiple priorities.\n\nStrong work ethic, highly self-motivated, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.\n\nThe Extras That Set You Apart:\nResearch experience with publications in top-tier robotics, computer vision, or machine vision venues\n\nFamiliarity with tools such as CloudCompare, Leica Cyclone, Faro Scene, or Trimble RealWorks\n\nFamiliarity with geospatial data, georeferencing, and coordinate systems\n\nExperience with survey control, calibration workflows, or on-site measurement tools (e.g., total
