If you share our values and enthusiasm for building a great culture and product, you will find a home at Fieldguide.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Senior Infrastructure Engineer at Fieldguide, you'll own critical infrastructure decisions, build platforms that other teams rely on, and bring a level of rigor and reliability that makes the whole organization move with more confidence. In a product built around trust and compliance, the quality of our infrastructure isn't just an engineering concern, but also core to what we promise our customers.\nOur engineering hub is located in San Francisco. This role is open to remote candidates anywhere in the US; Bay Area-based employees will work in a hybrid setting.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign, build, and maintain core platform infrastructure to support scalable, reliable, and secure services across engineering teams.\n\nDevelop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform to ensure consistent, reliable environments.\n\nOwn major architectural decisions and long-term technical direction for Fieldguide’s infrastructure.\n\nBuild reusable platforms, abstractions, and AI-enabled tooling that raise the baseline for engineering teams.\n\nMonitor and improve system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency through metrics, logging, and alerting frameworks (e.g., Datadog, CloudWatch).\n\nEnsure infrastructure security and compliance by implementing best practices for identity management, network segmentation, secrets handling, and vulnerability management.\n\nLead incident response and postmortem processes, driving root cause analysis and structural long-term improvements.\n\nMentor and collaborate with engineers and tech leads, fostering a culture of reliability, automation, and continuous improvement.\n\nSupport disaster recovery and business continuity planning, ensuring high availability and resilience of critical systems.\n\nDocument infrastructure design, architecture decisions, and operational procedures for transparency and team enablement.\n\nWho You Are\nYou have 5+ years of hands-on experience constructing complex cloud solutions using multiple AWS services.\n\nYou are skilled in provisioning and configuring cloud services using Terraform and the AWS CLI / API.\n\nYou have proficiency in designing effective monitoring/alerting and log aggregation solutions using tools like Datadog and AWS CloudWatch (New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana, etc.)\n\nYou have a solid understanding of data systems, including both SQL and NoSQL.\n\nYou have experience in developing and maintaining software in security and regulatory compliance environments (SOC 2, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, etc.)\n\nYou are comfortable participating in on-call support to ensure 24/7 availability of services.\n\nYou have a passion for mentoring and coaching other engineers.\n\nYou have excellent communication and organizational skills and are capable of managing multiple competing priorities.\n\nYou have deep expertise designing systems and processes that make engineering teams measurably faster and more effective.\n\nYou can clearly communicate technical strategy to managers and executives.\n\nBonus Points\nYou have experience with GraphQL as a database front-end API.\n\nYou have experience with database system architecture (e.g., Postgres) and observability, to help us increase our overall database performance.\n\nYou have experience both working with AI, and with providing it as a tool for engineers and our internal applications to utilize.\n\nYou have experience working through and designing for security audits (e.g., SOC2, PCI, etc.)\n\nMore About Fieldguide\nFieldguide is a values-based company.
