Based in Bengaluru, with project sites across the country and extensive travel.\nEmployment: Full-time\nFunction: AgOps, working closely with Agronomy and Supply Chain\nReports to: Head AgOps\nAbout FinAgra\nFinAgra is building a new model for commercial agriculture in emerging markets. We combine financing, agronomy, technology, and farm operations to turn underperforming farmland into professionally managed, productive farming businesses.\nRole Summary\nFinAgra is looking for an irrigation engineer to own the technical design of irrigation systems across our project sites, covering horticulture and agri crops. Each site needs a system matched to its crop, soil, water source and season, at a capital cost that pays back quickly and that can, wherever possible, be redeployed to another site.\nThis is a purely technical role. You will assess fields and existing infrastructure, choose the irrigation method, produce the design and technical specification, evaluate supplier proposals on technical merit, and supervise installation and in-season performance. Quotations, negotiation and supplier selection sit with the supply chain team, with whom you will work closely.\nWhat You Will Do\nField assessment and design\nSurvey each new project site for topography, soil type, water source, water quality, discharge and availability, and determine the irrigation requirement for the crop and acreage.\n\nAssess pre-existing irrigation infrastructure at the site and establish what can be reused, what needs upgrading and what must be replaced.\n\nSelect the appropriate irrigation method for each site and justify the choice on agronomic and technical grounds: drip (inline and online), sprinkler, micro-sprinkler, rain gun, mini-sprinkler, furrow and surface, and, where relevant, centre pivot or semi-permanent portable systems.\n\nMatch the irrigation method to the economics of the crop. For high-value crops, specify the system that maximises yield, uniformity and fertigation control, where a higher capital cost per acre is justified by the return. For low-value and bulk crops, where cost per acre is the binding constraint, design the lowest-cost workable system that still delivers adequate and timely water. Cost is optimised against crop value, but water adequacy is never traded away.\n\nPrepare hydraulic designs, layouts and Bills of Quantity: mainlines, sublines, laterals, emitters and spacing, filtration (screen, disc, sand, hydrocyclone), venturi and fertigation units, valves, air-release and flush assemblies, pump and motor sizing, and head-loss calculations.\n\nDesign for relocatability wherever the crop and inter-row spacing allow, maximising salvage value of laterals, sublines and filters when a system moves to another site.\n\nTechnical specification and evaluation\nDraft the technical and functional specification for each system, in a form the supply chain team can take to market.\n\nAssess supplier proposals on technical merit against that specification, flag gaps and deviations, and provide a written technical recommendation.\n\nSupport Total Cost of Ownership and Cost Benefit Analysis calculations, including cost per acre and expected payback, where the business needs them.\n\nCoordinate closely with the supply chain team, which owns quotations, negotiation and supplier selection.\n\nInstallation and commissioning\nSupervise installation at site: trenching, laying, jointing, pressure testing, commissioning and handover.\n\nVerify that material delivered to site matches the approved technical specification.\n\nTrain REPs and field teams on operation, valve and zone scheduling, filter cleaning, flushing and routine maintenance.\n\nTroubleshoot in-season issues such as clogging, pressure variation, uneven discharge, leakages and pump problems, and fix the root causes.\n\nFertigation and season support\nWork with the Agronomy team to convert crop nutrition plans into fertigation schedules the system can actually run, including injection rates, compatibility and timing.\n\nTrack water use, uniformity and system performance through the season, and report to Program Management for production reporting and decision making.\n\nWhat We Are Looking For\nRequired\nB.Tech or B.E. in Agricultural Engineering, Irrigation and Water Management, Civil Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.\n\n4-8 years of hands-on experience designing and commissioning irrigation systems on projects of comparable scale. Individual project sites of 50 acres and above, and a portfolio running into several hundred acres. Experience limited to small or single-acre installations will not be sufficient.\n\nStrong, demonstrable expertise in drip irrigation: design, hydraulics, installation, fertigation integration and in-season maintenance. This is non-negotiable.\n\nWorking knowledge of the full range of irrigation methods listed above, and the judgement to pick between them for a given field.\n\nSound understanding of farm-level water infrastructure: borewells, open wells, farm ponds, sumps, pump and motor selection, water quality and filtration requirements.\n\nFamiliarity with the product ranges and technical specifications of major irrigation OEMs, and the ability to compare systems on technical merit.\n\nFamiliarity with government micro-irrigation schemes and standards (PMKSY and state horticulture department norms) and the technical documentation they require.\n\nComfort with design and drawing tools such as irrigation design software, AutoCAD and spreadsheet-based hydraulic and cost modelling.\n\nPreferred\nPrior experience with horticulture, plantation or high-value field crops.\n\nExperience with relocatable or modular irrigation systems.\n\nExposure to soil moisture sensing, automation or remote monitoring of irrigation.\n\nExperience preparing technical specifications and evaluating vendor proposals for an owner or client organisation rather than for a supplier.\n\nWho Will Thrive in This Role\nYou are an engineer first. You can stand in a field, read the water, the soil and the crop, and tell the team what system it needs and what it will cost to run over its life. You write specifications that leave no room for a supplier to under-deliver, and you can defend a design on technical merit without reaching for commercial arguments.\nYou are comfortable working across dispersed locations with limited supervision, you follow a system through the season rather than handing it over and walking away, and you keep records and report consistently enough that the next design is better than the last.\nOther Requirements\nWillingness to travel extensively and spend the majority of working time at project sites anywhere in India.\n\nValid driving licence (four-wheeler preferred).","description_format":"text","description_chars":6703,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":4,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"India","iso":"IN","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-09T20:21:28Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":63,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.699,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":17,"expected_fill_days":28,"reasons":["conf:0","win:mid"],"computed_at":"2026-10-10T05:45:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/finagra-irrigation-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/finagra-irrigation-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-11T00:46:00Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":986,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":4014,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-12T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":3904959},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=3904959"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Ffinagra-irrigation-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Ffinagra-irrigation-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Ffinagra-irrigation-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/finagra-irrigation-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Ffinagra-irrigation-engineer"}]}
