Staff Backend Engineer

Requirements:

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including ownership of complex systems in production.
• Proven track record architecting and operating large-scale distributed systems (high throughput, low latency, high availability).
• Deep expertise in system design, including scalability, reliability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization.
• Strong ability to lead technical strategy and execute in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Experience leading large cross-team initiatives, influencing stakeholders, and driving alignment through technical design.
• Strong understanding of security, privacy, compliance, and secure coding practices.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and structured problem-solving ability.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively across time zones.
• High bar expectation: we are hiring for the top 10% of the market.
• Strong preference for candidates from top engineering schools in India.
• Strong preference for candidates from consumer-facing, product-focused tech companies (high scale, high-quality bar).

Nice to have:

• Fintech experience (lending, credit, cards, payments, risk, fraud, underwriting).
• Experience designing systems that support mobile-first consumer products.
• Experience with observability, incident management, and reliability programs at scale.
