First Table is a dining discovery platform that connects diners with restaurants, with a vision of being the first place diners go to book a table. It has worked in hospitality technology for over a decade with operations across New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom, and hires business development managers, web engineers, product managers and data analysts. The company is headquartered in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Are you a Designer who loves creating beautiful, intuitive digital experiences that people genuinely enjoy using? We're looking for a Product Designer who combines exceptional design craft with strong product thinking to help shape the next chapter of First Table.

About First Table

At First Table, our vision is simple: to be the first place diners go to book a table.

Proudly established in Queenstown, New Zealand - where our head office is based - we've been leading the charge in the hospitality tech industry for over a decade, with operations spanning New Zealand, Australia, and the UK.

First Table is a dining discovery platform that connects diners to restaurants through their love of food. Through our clever tech, we help restaurants get their night off to a great start and give diners a compelling reason to try somewhere new. It’s a win-win situation. From early bird offers to last table reservations, we make discovering and booking great dining experiences fast, easy, and rewarding.

At the heart of everything we do are our values: Win-Win-Win, Own It and Grow Together. These guide how we show up for each other, our restaurant partners, and our diners and they’re a big part of what makes First Table a great place to work.

About the opportunity

We're looking for a talented Product Designer who loves bringing together beautiful design, thoughtful user experiences and real commercial impact.

You'll join an established Product & Technology team, working alongside our Lead Product Designer, product managers and engineers to continually improve the experiences we create for both diners and restaurant partners.

This isn't about building a product from scratch. We've already got a successful platform, established design systems, strong product foundations and the tools to help you do your best work.

What we're looking for is someone who can take those foundations and make them even better.

You'll have plenty of autonomy to own your work, challenge ideas, explore opportunities and bring thoughtful design solutions to life. From understanding customer behaviours and testing ideas through to crafting polished interfaces and seeing your designs go live, you'll be involved in the full product journey.

What you'll be doing

  • Own design projects from initial discovery and research through to beautifully executed, shipped experiences.
  • Create engaging, intuitive and visually polished UI across mobile and web.
  • Design for both sides of our marketplace, from diners discovering their next restaurant to hospitality teams managing their bookings.
  • Work closely with product managers and engineers to turn customer insights and business needs into practical design solutions.
  • Use customer research, usability testing and product data to understand what's working and where we can improve.
  • Build on our established design system, ensuring consistency, accessibility and quality across the product.
  • Explore new ideas, prototype solutions and contribute to a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement.

What we're looking for

You're a well-rounded Product Designer who cares just as much about how a product looks and feels as you do about how it works.

Experience designing consumer-facing (B2C) digital products is particularly important to us. You understand what makes people engage with a product, what creates a seamless experience and how thoughtful design can influence customer behaviour.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Proven B2C product design experience, ideally across marketplaces, e-commerce, booking platforms or consumer apps.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing exceptional UI craft, interaction design and shipped products.
  • Confidence across UX research, prototyping and end-to-end product design.
  • Experience working with design systems and collaborating with product and engineering teams.
  • A curious, proactive mindset with strong communication skills and the confidence to take ownership.

You don't need to have built a product from the ground up or led an entire design function. What matters is the quality of your work, your ability to take ownership and your enthusiasm for creating exceptional consumer experiences.

Why First Table?

At First Table, great ideas are welcomed, ownership is encouraged and the work you do has a visible impact.

You'll enjoy:

  • Real ownership and autonomy to shape meaningful product improvements.
  • An established product and design environment, with the systems, tools and support already in place.
  • A global consumer product where your designs can make a difference to millions of diners and thousands of restaurants.
  • A collaborative, supportive team that values great thinking, creativity and getting things done.
  • Room to grow, develop your craft and continue building your product design career.
  • Hybrid working with the flexibility to do your best work.

Ready to create something great?

Apply now by submitting your resume along with your design portfolio. We'd love to see examples of your work, your design thinking and the digital experiences you've helped bring to life.
