The DeviceOS engineering team owns the core platform software running across all physical Clover smart devices and supports global mass manufacturing software pipelines. As a Staff AOSP Engineer based in Sunnyvale, CA, you will serve as the technical authority driving custom Android OS architecture, system framework modifications, low-level platform security, and factory provisioning to deliver a secure, high-performing device experience.\nWhat you’ll do\nLead functional solution architecture, product requirements, and technical designs for custom Android Open Source Project (AOSP) builds across current and next-generation payment terminals. \nDesign, develop, and optimize Android system services, background daemons, and framework-layer components (frameworks/base/) compatible across multiple Android OS versions.\nBridge high-level application frameworks with low-level C/C++ native layers, working alongside Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and kernel teams. \nPartner directly with global manufacturing partners and test engineers to build, maintain, and optimize factory flashing tools, diagnostic software, and board bring-up daemons to achieve 100% manufacturing yield. \nArchitect platform security workflows, including PKI certificate provisioning, SELinux/SEAndroid policies, and HSM or ARM TrustZone integrations. \nResponsibilities listed are not intended to be all-inclusive and may be modified as necessary.\nExperience you’ll need to have\n7+ years of hands-on software development experience with a primary focus on customizing, building, and deploying AOSP at the platform/OS layer. \nProven track record in the architecture, design, and customization of Android devices and platforms (frameworks/base, SystemServer, JNI, AIDL/HIDL) rather than consumer applications. \nTechnical proficiency in at least two major languages used in the AOSP stack: Java, C++, C, or Kotlin. \nHands-on experience adapting Android frameworks, system services, and Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL). \nProficient with AOSP build tools and revision control workflows, including Git, Gerrit, repo, Android.bp, and Android.mk. \nDeep understanding of platform security protocols, encryption/decryption, PKI certificate management, and Hardware Security Modules (HSM).\nExperience that would be great to have\nHands-on experience with Android HAL development or Project Treble architecture. \nExperience working directly with the Linux Kernel for Android, device drivers, or ARM TrustZone / TEE environments. \nDemonstrated experience mentoring engineers, driving architecture reviews, and providing technical leadership to cross-functional teams.\nHow you’ll work:\nThis role is on-site Monday through Friday.
