You will be directly responsible for ensuring the scalability, resilience, automation, and performance optimization of our cloud environment by leveraging Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Ansible, and Terraform, or Pulumi.\nThis is a deeply technical role requiring expert-level understanding of OpenStack internals across major projects including Neutron, Octavia, Manila, Cinder, Nova, Ironic, and Glance. You will also collaborate with platform and SRE teams to maintain secure, performant, and multi-tenant-isolated services that serve high-throughput, mission-critical applications.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign and implement multi-tenant OpenStack infrastructure aligned with open community standards, including network service isolation and tenant-aware resource scheduling.\nAutomate the provisioning, lifecycle management, and configuration of OpenStack services and supporting components using Ansible, Terraform, or Pulumi.\nExtend and maintain integrations for core OpenStack services:\n Neutron: Custom network plugins/drivers, L2/L3 routing, BGP, DHCP, and tenant network segmentation (VLAN, VXLAN, Geneve).\nOctavia: HA load balancing with amphora and provider drivers, TLS offloading, Layer 4/7 routing.\nManila: Share drivers for NFS/CIFS, tenant access control, storage backends.\nCinder: Block storage provisioning, volume snapshots, multi-attach, backend tuning.\nNova: Compute resource scheduling, NUMA/cpu pinning, SR-IOV and PCI passthrough.\nIronic: Bare metal provisioning workflows, BIOS/IPMI automation, PXE and UEFI boot configuration.\n Glance: Image lifecycle management, backing store optimization, image caching strategies.\nContribute to upstream OpenStack projects when needed (bug fixes, driver enhancements, documentation).\nImplement continuous delivery pipelines for OpenStack updates, including patch management, service upgrade testing, and rollback procedures.\nDevelop automated monitoring, alerting, and healing mechanisms using GitOps principles and observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Loki, Grafana).\nHarden services for high availability, disaster recovery, and scale-out operations.\nPerform deep-dive troubleshooting and performance analysis of OpenStack services across control and data planes.\nParticipate in on-call rotation, incident response, and root cause analysis for platform reliability issues.\nMinimum Qualifications\n5+ years of experience operating and automating large-scale OpenStack cloud environments, preferably in community-driven or upstream-contributing teams.\nExpert-level proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code with Ansible, Terraform, or Pulumi.\nStrong hands-on knowledge of Neutron, Octavia, Manila, Cinder, Nova, Ironic, and Glance.\nStrong Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) systems engineering background with advanced scripting in Python, Bash, or Go.\nFluency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated test frameworks.\nStrong understanding of L2/L3 networking, SDN overlays (VXLAN, Geneve), load balancing (Octavia), and storage protocols (SDS) (iSCSI, NFS, CEPH).\nDemonstrated success building or maintaining multi-region or high-availability OpenStack clusters.\nExperience with container technologies (e.g., Docker) and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes) is a plus.\nAbility to write technical documentation and contribute to community wikis or knowledge bases.\nPreferred Qualifications\nContributions to upstream OpenStack codebases or participation in SIGs/WGs.\nFamiliarity with RBAC, Keystone federation, Barbican (secrets management), and Ceilometer/Gnocchi/Aodh.\nUnderstanding of security best practices for tenant isolation, microsegmentation, and compliance (e.g., CIS, NIST).\nBackground in telco, edge cloud, or large enterprise infrastructure environments.\nExperience building and maintaining automated test environments for OpenStack upgrades and validation (e.g., Tempest, Rally, or custom test harnesses).\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience and relevant industry certifications will also be considered.\nWhat You’ll Get\nA collaborative team that’s deeply invested in open source, community contribution, and infrastructure excellence.\nComplex technical challenges that require creative, scalable solutions.\nThe opportunity to shape a next-generation private cloud platform built on true open infrastructure principles.\nAccess to the latest tools, frameworks, and upstream project developments.\nSkills and Attributes:\nAnalytical Thinking & Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to translate complex, cross-domain requirements into scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure and automation solutions.\nCollaboration & Teamwork: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven track record of effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, including developers, operations, security, and product stakeholders.\n Mentorship & Leadership: Passionate about knowledge-sharing and mentorship, with experience guiding junior engineers and fostering a team culture of continuous learning, innovation, and technical excellence in cloud engineering and DevOps practices.\nWork Location: This role is fully remote for candidates who reside outside the 30 mile radius of one of our offices.
