Centre\nEnfield\nLondon\nEN1 3ES\nSalary\n£45,393 to £57,477 per annum\nJob Overview\nEnfield Council is seeking a Corporate Accountant to join its Corporate Accountancy team on a permanent basis.\nReporting to the Deputy Chief Accountant, the successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening the Council's financial reporting framework, improving financial controls and supporting the delivery of key corporate finance work.\nThe role focuses strongly on fixed asset accounting, including Property, Plant and Equipment, as well as IFRS 16 lease accounting, closure of accounts, financial controls, process improvement and financial guidance to services across the Council.\nThis is a technical accounting role with business partnering responsibilities, suited to a qualified or part-qualified accountant with strong financial accounting skills, advanced Excel ability and confidence working with complex data.\nImportant - Please Read Carefully\nThis role requires strong financial accounting experience, particularly around fixed assets, Property, Plant and Equipment, IFRS 16 lease accounting, financial controls and closure of accounts.\nCandidates should be CCAB or CIMA qualified, or part qualified with a clear commitment to completing their studies.\nLocal government corporate accountancy experience is highly desirable, but not essential.\nCandidates without strong financial accounting, fixed asset accounting, advanced Excel and complex data experience are unlikely to be considered.\nKey Responsibilities\nSupport the Council's closure of accounts process\nReview financial controls and improve key financial processes\nLead, maintain and improve IFRS 16 lease accounting processes\nSupport Property, Plant and Equipment finance processes\nEnsure fixed asset accounting is accurate, consistent and compliant\nEnsure compliance with IFRS and CIPFA requirements\nProvide financial guidance to services across the Council\nChampion strong financial governance and consistency\nSupport improvements to the Council's financial reporting framework\nWork with complex financial data and reporting requirements\nUse Excel to analyse, reconcile and present financial information\nIdentify opportunities to improve corporate finance support and insight\nEssential Experience & Skills\nCCAB or CIMA qualified, or part qualified and committed to completing studies\nStrong financial accounting experience\nFixed asset accounting experience\nUnderstanding of Property, Plant and Equipment accounting\nKnowledge of IFRS 16 lease accounting\nExperience supporting closure of accounts\nExperience reviewing or improving financial controls\nAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills\nConfidence working with complex financial data\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills\nAbility to provide clear financial guidance to stakeholders\nStrong attention to detail and analytical ability\nDesirable\nLocal government corporate accountancy experience\nExperience with CIPFA's Code of Practice for Local Government Accounting\nPublic sector finance experience\nExperience business partnering with operational services\nExperience
