The successful candidate will drive Refuse Collection Vehicles and other vehicles, oversee loaders, ensure collections are completed safely and efficiently, complete vehicle checks, report defects, maintain route safety, ensure PPE compliance and act as the public-facing lead for the crew.\nThe role requires a clean and current LGV Category C licence, up-to-date Driver CPC, relevant experience in a similar role, and the ability to lead an effective waste collection team. The job description confirms the postholder will drive RCVs, lead collection crews, ensure safe working, complete daily vehicle safety checks, report accidents and defects, and help deliver recycling and waste services professionally and safely.\nImportant - Please Read Carefully\nThis role requires a clean current LGV Category C licence and up-to-date Driver CPC.\nYou must have relevant HGV / LGV driving experience, ideally within recycling, waste, refuse collection, street cleansing or local authority frontline services, and be willing to lead loaders as part of a collection crew.\nCandidates without an LGV Category C licence and team leadership / waste collection experience are unlikely to be considered.\nKey Responsibilities\nDrive Refuse Collection Vehicles and other recycling/waste vehicles\n\nLead loaders and ensure collections are carried out safely and efficiently\n\nComplete food waste, garden waste, residual waste, hygiene waste, dry recycling and trade waste collections\n\nEnsure scheduled collections are completed, including assisted collections and extra allocations\n\nCarry out daily vehicle safety checks\n\nRecord and report vehicle defects immediately\n\nEnsure crews wear PPE and follow safe working practices\n\nEnsure receptacles are returned correctly after collection\n\nEnsure spillages are cleaned up and contamination procedures are followed\n\nMonitor route risks and report any new hazards\n\nReport accidents, incidents and near misses promptly\n\nEnsure vehicles are clean and fuelled at the end of the day\n\nComplete all required documentation accurately and on time\n\nAct as safeguarding lead for the team and report concerns\n\nUse issued technology correctly and report any defects\n\nSupport route optimisation and service improvement projects\n\nWork from other depots when operationally required\n\nDeputise for the Deputy Supervisor when required\n\nCarry out other duties such as loading, litter collection, sandbagging or winter gritting when needed\n\nWork occasional weekends, evenings, bank holidays or emergency response shifts as required\n\nEssential Experience & Skills\nClean current LGV Category C licence\n\nUp-to-date Driver CPC\n\nRelevant experience in a similar HGV / LGV driving role\n\nExperience or willingness to lead an effective team\n\nGood understanding of health and safety requirements\n\nAbility to follow H&S policies and safe working procedures\n\nAbility to work without close supervision\n\nGood communication skills\n\nUnderstanding of recycling and waste services\n\nAbility to supervise colleagues and ensure safe, professional collections\n\nCommitment to quality recycling service and public engagement\n\nFlexible approach to duties and service needs\n\nWillingness to undertake relevant training\n\nAbility to work outside core hours when required\n\nDesirable\nWelsh language skills\n\nPrevious local authority waste collection experience\n\nExperience driving Refuse Collection Vehicles\n\nExperience supervising loaders or frontline operational crews\n\nAdditional Information\nThis role does not require a DBS check.\nBank holidays are considered normal working days for recycling and waste operations, except 25-26 December and 1 January.
