The successful candidates will safely manoeuvre waste collection vehicles, trailers and associated plant around the depot and waste transfer station, ensuring safe traffic flow, correct vehicle positioning and compliance with health and safety procedures.\nThis role requires previous experience in a waste management, depot or similar operational environment, experience shunting or manoeuvring vehicles in a controlled yard environment, and an HGV licence, Category C or C+E.\nImportant - Please Read Carefully\nThis role requires an HGV driving licence, Category C or C+E, plus a Digital Tachograph Card, CPC Driving Qualification and LGV Driver Qualification Card / DQC.\nCandidates must have experience of vehicle manoeuvring or shunting in a depot, yard, waste management or similar operational setting.\nThe role includes working outdoors, operating around moving vehicles, following strict health and safety procedures, using weighbridge systems or similar data-entry systems, and supporting waste transfer station operations.\nCandidates without HGV Category C or C+E, valid driver cards and shunting or controlled-yard manoeuvring experience are unlikely to be considered.\nKey Responsibilities\nSafely shunt and manoeuvre waste collection vehicles, trailers and associated plant\nPosition vehicles for loading, unloading, washing and maintenance activities\nMaintain safe traffic flow within the depot and waste transfer station\nEnsure segregation of pedestrians and vehicles at all times\nConduct routine vehicle safety checks\nReport vehicle defects in line with Council fleet procedures\nOperate the site weighbridge system for inbound and outbound vehicles\nRecord vehicle weights, waste types, origins and destinations accurately\nIssue weighbridge tickets and maintain electronic and manual records\nResolve weighbridge or operational discrepancies with drivers, supervisors and managers\nDirect vehicles to designated tipping and loading areas\nMonitor waste loads for correct segregation\nIdentify non-compliant or prohibited waste\nAssist with loading bulk haulage vehicles, containers or transfer trailers where required\nMaintain housekeeping and cleanliness standards across the site\nFollow risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work\nComply with environmental permit conditions and Council environmental policies\nWear and promote the correct use of PPE\nReport accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards and unsafe practices\nSupport emergency arrangements including fire prevention, spill response and evacuation procedures\nAssist with routine site inspections and basic maintenance tasks\nEssential Experience & Skills\nHGV driving licence, Category C or C+E\nDigital Tachograph
