Laminex is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Mechanical Fitter & Turner Apprentice to join our maintenance team at our MDF manufacturing facility in Toolara, Queensland.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn your trade in a modern, large scale industrial environment while working alongside highly skilled tradespeople. Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands on experience maintaining, repairing and improving a wide range of manufacturing equipment that keeps our plant operating safely and efficiently.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Fitter & Turner Apprentice, you will complete a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade while receiving practical on-the-job training.

Working under the guidance of experienced Mechanical Fitters, you will develop skills in:

  • Preventative and breakdown maintenance of industrial plant and equipment.
  • Installation, alignment and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
  • Bearings, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Precision measurement, fitting and assembly techniques.
  • Fault finding and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Safe use of workshop machinery and hand tools.
  • Welding and fabrication tasks where required.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Working within a computerised maintenance management system (MEX).
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to workplace health, safety and environmental standards.

About You

As your apprenticeship progresses, you’ll take on increasing responsibility while building the skills needed for a successful long-term career in industrial maintenance.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about mechanical equipment and how things work.
  • Reliable, punctual and willing to learn.
  • Safety-focused with a positive attitude.
  • Mechanically minded and enjoys hands-on work.
  • Able to work well within a team while also showing initiative.
  • Comfortable working in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Committed to completing all TAFE and workplace training requirements.
  • Holds a current driver’s licence.
  • Previous experience with machinery, automotive work, farming equipment, fabrication or trade-related hobbies will be viewed favorably but is not essential.
