If you want to learn fast, work with unusually strong scientists and engineers, and see your work shape real design decisions at leading companies, Flexcompute offers a rare environment in which to grow and do your best work.\nAbout Flexcompute\nFlexcompute is the physics company. We exist to make the real world computable. Created by engineers from MIT and Stanford, we build trusted, GPU-native physics simulation and AI-powered engineering technology for teams designing aircraft, vehicles, chips, and photonic systems. Our technology is used by more than 250 companies and academic institutions, including innovators such as Anduril, BETA Technologies, Coherent, Hermeus, Joby Aviation, Northrop Grumman, Samsung, and Xanadu.\nOur products span fluid dynamics, electromagnetics, photonics, geometry, and multiphysics workflows. We work at the frontier of physical modeling, numerical algorithms, GPU computing, high-performance computing, AI, and engineering automation. The goal is not speed at the expense of physics. It is to make previously impractical, high-fidelity engineering work fast enough to shape real design decisions.\nAbout the role\nYou will work with engineering teams at customers in Korea on hard structural, thermal, and RF problems. Some of the Flexcompute technology you will use is mature and in daily production use. Some of it is new, and you will help shape it: benchmarking it against established tools on real customer problems, finding where it needs to improve, and turning what customers need into product requirements.\nYou will focus on one or more of these domains:\nStructural mechanics: thermal stress, warpage, CTE mismatch, and the reliability of packages, boards, and assemblies.\nThermal: heat transfer in chips, packages, and boards, from device-level hot spots to package-level temperature maps.\nRF and electromagnetics: antenna and microwave design, S-parameter extraction for interconnects, packages, and boards, and signal and power integrity.\nMuch of this work sits in semiconductors and advanced packaging, where structural, thermal, and electrical effects are coupled. Experience in one domain, plus curiosity about the others, is the right starting point.\nWhat you will do\nUnderstand challenging industrial problems, identify the relevant physics, and formulate an appropriate simulation strategy.\nBuild, run, validate, and interpret simulations, and compare results with measurements, reference data, or established tools.\nLead technical evaluations and benchmarks with customers in Korea, from problem definition to final results.\nPut new Flexcompute solvers through demanding customer cases before wider release, and report clearly where they match, beat, or fall short of established tools.\nInvestigate unexpected results, convergence behavior, modeling assumptions, boundary conditions, mesh sensitivity, and discrepancies with experiments.\nCreate clear and reusable Python workflows, examples, benchmarks, and technical demonstrations.\nTrain users and deliver technical presentations and workshops, in Korean and in English.\nCollaborate with customers, application engineers, product teams, and solver developers. Translate user needs and physical insight into actionable product feedback.\nTake ownership of difficult, ambiguous problems and drive them toward a trustworthy result.\nTwo profiles can be equally successful\nApplication-oriented profile. You have deep physical or engineering understanding, practical simulation experience, strong communication skills, and enough programming ability to automate workflows and investigate problems rigorously. This is the profile we expect most often in this role.\nScientific-computing profile. You are stronger in numerical methods and technical computing and may contribute more deeply to algorithms, performance, meshing, or simulation infrastructure.\nWe do not expect one person to cover both profiles equally. Exceptional strength in physics and applications can compensate for less advanced computing experience.\nWhere you will work\nThis role is based in South Korea and is offered as an independent contractor engagement. Flexcompute does not have an office in Korea, so this is a remote role with regular visits to customer sites in Korea and occasional travel to our headquarters in the Boston area. Our product and solver teams work across several time zones, so some meetings will fall outside standard Korean working hours.\nRequirements\nWho you are\nYou have an MSc or PhD in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, materials science, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field, or a BSc in one of these fields with several years of hands-on simulation experience in industry.\nYou have hands-on experience with numerical simulation in at least one of structural mechanics, heat transfer, or RF/electromagnetics, using commercial or in-house tools.\nYou have strong foundations in physics, mathematics, or engineering and can reason from first principles about why a result is right or wrong.\nYou can write practical scripts, preferably in Python, to automate work, analyze data, and test ideas.\nYou communicate fluently in Korean and work comfortably in English, both written and spoken.\nYou have the right to live and work in South Korea without visa sponsorship, for example as a Korean citizen or permanent resident. We are not able to sponsor a Korean visa for this role.\nYou are motivated by real engineering problems, product impact, and industrial applications, and you show unusual ownership, persistence, and intellectual curiosity.\nWhat can demonstrate exceptional ability\nWe care about evidence of ability and genuine technical interest, not one prescribed career path. Strong signals may include:\nIndustry R&D: simulation work in semiconductors, electronics, displays, automotive, aerospace, defense, or energy that directly informed a design decision.\nApplication engineering: experience at a simulation software company or in a technical consulting role, supporting demanding users.\nApplied research: work that connects modeling with experiments, measurements, or a real physical system, including publications.\nPersonal or open technical work: simulation tools, automation, open-source contributions, or a demanding project built independently.\nWe are most interested in what you personally designed, simulated, built, tested, debugged, or improved.\nExperience that would be useful\nAny of the following would be valuable, but none is required across the board:\nSemiconductor packaging and reliability: 2.5D/3D-IC, chiplets, HBM, warpage, solder joint and interconnect reliability, fatigue.\nElectronics cooling and thermal management for chips, servers, or power electronics.\nSI/PI, EMI/EMC, antenna design, or PCB and package-level electromagnetic analysis.\nCommercial simulation tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus, Icepak, FloTHERM, HFSS, SIwave, Sigrity, CST, ADS, or COMSOL.\nNumerical methods for PDEs, meshing, optimization, or uncertainty analysis.\nC++, GPU computing, CUDA, or high-performance computing.\nAI or machine learning applied to engineering, simulation, or technical data.\nHow you will be successful\nYour simulation work is physically sound, reproducible, and useful for an engineering decision.\nCustomers come back to you with their next hard problem.\nYou can distinguish a modeling issue, a numerical issue, a workflow issue, and a product issue, and involve the right people.\nYou make difficult technical topics clearer for customers and colleagues and improve the workflow around each case.\nHiring process\nApplication review, a first call with our talent team, a technical interview with our engineering team, and final interviews with our leadership. Interviews are held in English over video.\nHow to apply\nPlease send us your CV in English and a short note describing one difficult technical problem or engineering project you worked on. Tell us what you personally contributed, what made it difficult, and how you knew your result was correct or useful. Describe your work only at a level you are free to share, and do not send confidential information belonging to any current or former employer or customer.\nPlease do not include a photo, date of birth, marital status, or family details in your CV.\nWe welcome applications from people who do not match every item above. If you have exceptional evidence of technical ability and a strong interest in physics simulation, we would like to hear from you.\nBenefits\nWhy Flexcompute is an exceptional place to build your career\nLearn from an unusually strong technical team. Flexcompute brings together distinguished technologists, experienced industry practitioners, and computational scientists trained at leading institutions around the world. The team includes pioneers and internationally recognized experts in turbulence modeling, computational mathematics, electromagnetics, photonics, aerospace, and scientific computing.\nWork on problems at the edge of what is computationally practical. We tackle simulations that stretch conventional approaches in scale, fidelity, speed, and automation, then turn research-level ideas into reliable products.\nSee physics create real industrial impact. Your work can influence how leading semiconductor, electronics, automotive, aerospace, and advanced-technology companies design and validate new hardware.\nCombine scientific depth with the pace of a technology company. You do not have to choose between rigorous physics and practical relevance. You can investigate difficult questions, build tools, work with users, and see the result deployed.\nTake meaningful ownership from the beginning. Strong ideas and sound technical judgment matter more than seniority. You will be expected to learn quickly, contribute directly, and grow toward the part of physics, applications, or scientific computing where you can become exceptional.\nShare in the company you help build. We offer competitive compensation and meaningful equity.\nFlexcompute is an equal opportunity employer. We value different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and we encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds to apply.","description_format":"text","description_chars":10979,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"Korean","level":"All levels","optional":false},{"language":"English","level":"All levels","optional":false}]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"South Korea","iso":"KR","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Simulation & Digital Twin Software","High-Performance Computing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-20T18:58:55Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":2,"expected_fill_days":19,"reasons":["conf:3","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-23T05:54:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/flexcompute-cae-application-engineer-structural-thermal-rfsi-pi","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/flexcompute-cae-application-engineer-structural-thermal-rfsi-pi.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-23T06:39:14Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":10846,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-24T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":7971},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=7971"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fflexcompute-cae-application-engineer-structural-thermal-rfsi-pi"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fflexcompute-cae-application-engineer-structural-thermal-rfsi-pi"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fflexcompute-cae-application-engineer-structural-thermal-rfsi-pi"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/flexcompute-cae-application-engineer-structural-thermal-rfsi-pi\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fflexcompute-cae-application-engineer-structural-thermal-rfsi-pi"}]}
