The COO works closely with the CEO and other senior executives to develop and implement strategies, policies, and initiatives that drive business growth and operational excellence.\nThe COO will support the CEO to drive extensive and sustainable growth including considering acquisitions, creating new offices or practice groups, and in new locations. The COO plays a critical role in ensuring operational efficiency, strategic execution and delivery of key projects, and the achievement of business goals.\nAs a member of the management board, the COO will work with the CEO in setting the pace and direction across the firm, contributing through the provision of strategic advice, decision support, providing direction on projects, liaison with regulators, and ensuring appropriate governance and oversight arrangements are in place.\nThe COO will have overall responsibility for internal operational processes and workflows to maximise efficiency and productivity across the Firm.\nThey will transform the business units to provide efficient and cost-effective support services that deliver enhanced client and colleague value that are fully compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.\nReporting directly to the CEO, based at the Derby head offices but with travel as necessary to other offices as necessary.\nKey Responsibilities\nOperational Leadership:\nAs a member of the management board, support the CEO to develop and implement the business’ vision, short- and long-term strategy and objectives, holding managers and senior leaders to account. \nProvide strategic direction and leadership for the organisation’s day-to-day operations.\nCollaborate with other senior leaders and Heads of Departments to grow and strengthen the business and enhance operational effectiveness.\nOversee and optimize internal processes and workflows to maximize efficiency and productivity across all practice areas, with a continuous improvement focus.\nIn the case of crisis or problem, play the role of leader and steer the function to success.\n\nStrategic Planning and Execution:\nCollaborate with the CEO and executive team to develop and execute the company’s strategic plan.\nDetermine annual operating plans and priorities for all areas and ensure the functions meet their planned costs through oversight of budget and FTE to meet targets in line with financial planning.\nEffectively translating and communicating the vision and strategy of the function and ensuring alignment with the Firm’s purpose and overall strategy, setting comprehensive goals for performance and growth.\nEnsure that operational plans align with the organisation’s long-term goals.\nMaking high-quality investment recommendations which support the strategy.\nSupport senior leadership with key client tender submissions, and presenting to clients where required to ensure the Firm meets the client demands.\nMaintaining awareness of the competitive market landscape, expansion opportunities and industry developments.\nDemonstrate a high ‘execution focus’ - focus on delivery, listening and learning from user experiences. The role holder will need to demonstrate a clear result orientated approach while implementing innovative ideas. \n\nResource Management:\nManage and allocate resources effectively, including budgeting, staffing, and capital investments where appropriate. \nMonitor financial performance and profitability. \nAssess the progress made by each operating unit against quality of service, efficiency, and delivery objectives to ensure that they are working towards achieving improved service and reduced costs as a core common goal. \nSet and assign operational goals for all areas and implement clear metrics and measurements to demonstrate effective performance. \n\nQuality Assurance:\nEstablish and maintain quality standards and best practices across all operational areas and practice areas. \nImplement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and performance. \n\nSupply Chain Management:\nOversee supply chain management and procurement, aligned to the Firm’s procurement process chart. \nConduct regular review of suppliers to ensure supplier quality and performance. \n\nRisk Management: \nIdentify and mitigate potential risks to the organisation, including financial, operational, and reputational risks, ensuring all are captured on the Firms risk register. \nLead the organisations’ governance framework and foster a culture of accountability. \nLead and own the activities on the Firm’s governance calendar, providing regular updates at monthly board meetings. \nDevelop and implement risk management strategies and contingency plans including business continuity plans (BCP). \nEnsure that the organisation complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards set by the SRA, FCA or other regulatory bodies. \n\nTeam Leadership and Development: \nBuild and lead a high-performing operations team. \nLead employees to encourage maximum performance and engagement. \nFoster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning. \n\nTechnology and Automation: \nIn partnership with the Chief Information Officer, leverage technology and automation solutions to streamline operations and enhance productivity. \nStay
