While this role does not directly interact with students, its on-site presence is essential to supporting the university’s operations and advancing student learning across the institution.\nJob Description\nTypical duties include but are not limited to:\nCoordinates operational activities for maintaining network systems and communications services including patching, backups, configuration, updates, and documentation.\nParticipates in the installation and maintenance of network communications equipment.\nTroubleshoots network issues within established guidelines.\nDevelops new techniques and procedures to enhance university networking and communications services.\nReviews progress, evaluates results, recommends new processes, and promotes best practices.\nWorks with vendors to complete projects such as cable/equipment installations.\nTroubleshoots data cabling issues.\nReports on network performance.\nServes as an escalation point for Teams Telecommunications tickets.\nTracks tickets in work order system.\nOther duties:\nPerforms other job-related duties as assigned.\nAdditional Job Description\nRequired Qualifications:\nThis position requires either four years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field.\nExperience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook).\nAny appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience in data center and network design.\nCurrent entry level network certification.\nExperience working in higher education.\nExperience with large to very large enterprise network environments.\nKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:\nProven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity.\nDemonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable.\nStrong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams.\nKnowledge of or ability to learn networking concepts such as OSI, TCP/IP, Routing and Switching (OSPF/RIP/BGP) principles, Palo Alto Networks, Juniper Networks, Extreme Networks, and Cisco Networks.\nKnowledge of QoS in VoIP networking.\nKnowledge of Microsoft Teams Call Queues systems, or similar VOIP communications.\nKnowledge of wired and wireless networks, connections, wiring and cabling standards, and network management tools and processes.\nKnowledge of local and wide area networking, communications, and related hardware and software.\nSkill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.\nExcellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.\nAbility to take the initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and competing demands are involved.\nAbility to work independently and follow through on assignments.\nAbility to present effectively to small and large groups.\nAbility to collaborate and work effectively within the community and willingness to contribute to a team effort.\nAbility to provide professional customer service.\nInstitutional Values & Behavioral Expectation\nIn this role, the successful candidate will be expected to:\nSeek out new approaches to improve outcomes; remain open for feedback and new ideas.\nLead with integrity; consistently produce high-quality work; persevere to overcome obstacles to meet deadlines and achieve deliverables.\nShare information and insights thoughtfully; build partnerships across departments; communicate respectfully; support colleagues to achieve common goals.\nPay Grade 18\nFGCU is a State University System of Florida member and an Equal Opportunity and Equal Access employer.
