About The Role: 

The Facilities Maintenance Technician I performs general building maintenance and routine facility support activities to maintain a safe, clean, and functional work environment. This position is responsible for completing preventive maintenance tasks, performing basic repairs, maintaining facility appearance, and supporting senior maintenance personnel with technical work as needed. The role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn facility systems while adhering to all company safety and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine building maintenance including painting, drywall repair, patching, caulking, ceiling tile replacement, door and hardware adjustments, flooring repairs, and minor carpentry.
  • Assemble, install, and repair office furnishings, shelving, fixtures, and other facility equipment.
  • Complete general repair work to maintain the appearance and functionality of the facility.
  • Maintain facility grounds through landscaping, weed removal, trash collection, snow removal, salting, and general exterior housekeeping.
  • Perform minor concrete and asphalt repairs, maintain sidewalks and parking areas, and assist with exterior building inspections.
  • Support seasonal maintenance activities to ensure safe access to the facility.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on non-critical building systems and equipment under established procedures.
  • Complete assigned work orders accurately and document completed work within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Identify deficiencies and report equipment concerns requiring advanced technical support.
  • Assist senior maintenance technicians with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, utility, and mechanical maintenance activities as directed.
  • Participate in safety meetings, required training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Learn facility systems, maintenance procedures, and GMP requirements while developing technical maintenance skills.
  • Conduct routine facility walkdowns to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and housekeeping issues.
  • Maintain organized maintenance shops/Mechanical spaces, storage areas, and inventory of commonly used maintenance supplies.
  • Support workplace organization initiatives and maintain a clean, inspection-ready facility.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, general maintenance, construction, manufacturing support, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge and hands-on ability with hand tools, power tools, and general maintenance equipment, with the ability to safely perform routine repairs.
  • Ability to perform general building maintenance tasks such as painting, drywall/patching, caulking, minor carpentry, fixture installation, and basic repairs.
  • Ability to safely perform grounds and exterior maintenance, including snow removal, salting, landscaping, trash removal, and general upkeep of sidewalks and parking areas.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures, work instructions, and company policies, while maintaining accurate documentation of completed work.
  • Willingness to learn facility systems, preventive maintenance practices, CMMS/BMS software, and GMP requirements while working effectively in a manufacturing-support environment.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing-support environment where facility maintenance activities directly support daily operations and production needs, including occasional on-call or after-hours availability as needed.

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, or other regulated facility.
  • Familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or building utility systems and an interest in developing those skills.
  • Previous experience using a CMMS, Building Management System (BMS/BAS), electronic work-order system, or other computerized maintenance software.
  • Experience reading equipment manuals, basic mechanical drawings, P&IDs, or facility documentation.
