This role supports the installation, assembly, and commissioning of fire alarm and life safety systems while working under the guidance of experienced and certified technicians.\nThe Apprentice Fire Alarm Construction Technician will receive hands-on training while developing technical skills, fire code knowledge, and safe work practices in accordance with NFPA standards and local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements. This position is ideal for individuals looking to build a long-term career in fire alarm system installation and life safety systems\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities:\nAssist with the installation and commissioning of fire alarm and life safety systems in new construction and retrofit projects\nSupport work on fire alarm components and devices, including:Fire alarm control panels\nSmoke, heat, duct, and beam detectors\nManual pull stations\nHorns, strobes, and speakers\nPower supplies and backup batteries\n\nAssist senior technicians with device installation, wire pulling, cable routing, termination, and system startup activities\nHelp read and interpret blueprints, drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation specifications\nSupport system testing and verification activities prior to project completion\nLearn and follow NFPA 72, applicable local fire codes, project requirements, and company standards\nMaintain jobsite safety, cleanliness, and organization\nComplete project documentation, material tracking, and related records using company systems\nCommunicate professionally with supervisors, project managers, contractors, customers, and inspectors\nMaintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles as assigned\nParticipate in ongoing training, safety meetings, and certification or apprenticeship programs\nRequired Skills & Qualifications\nHigh School Diploma or GED\n2+ years experience in low voltage systems, electrical work, construction, or a related trade\nAbility to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver's license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record\nBasic mechanical or electrical aptitude\nWillingness to learn fire alarm system installation practices, construction methodologies, and applicable fire codes\nAbility to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety\nGood written and verbal communication skills\nBasic computer or tablet skills for project documentation and reporting\nAbility to manage time, follow schedules, and complete assigned tasks\nPreferred Qualifications:\nEnrollment in or completion of a fire alarm, electrical, or low-voltage apprenticeship program\nFamiliarity with basic hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment commonly used in low-voltage installations\nNICET Level I (Fire Alarm Systems) or willingness to obtain certification\nInterest in developing long-term technical skills within the fire alarm and life safety industry\nThis pay range reflects the compensation rate Fortis Fire & Safety reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of posting. Field positions may involve heavy lifting, working in varying climates (including outdoor conditions), construction or low-voltage environments, and exposure to dust, noise, or confined spaces.
