In this role, you will plan and lead medium-scale design projects in the key areas (embedded hardware, automation, and controls), guide technical teams, and contribute to the full product development lifecycle for electrical and electromechanical systems used in medical devices.\nYou will collaborate across functions, evaluate results, support proposals and cost estimates, and deliver high-quality engineering documentation and designs.\nCore Responsibilities\nApply expertise in embedded design and general knowledge in the field of electrical engineering.\nPlan and execute design and development assignments \nDeliver electrical designs through the full lifecycle-from concept to requirements, detailed design, verification/validation, and design transfer.\nDevelop system and subsystem architecture and design requirements.\nCreate electrical schematics, multilayer high speed PCB designs, and electrical cable/harness designs.\nDevelop multilevel Bills of Materials (BOMs) and applicable engineering documentation\nSpecify electronic components and power supplies.\nDevelop and execute engineering test protocols.\nProduce technical reports.\nMaintain accurate documentation of designs, specification, processes, testing, and analysis.\nPerform failure analyses and prepare investigation reports.\nConduct and participate in technical assessments and design reviews.\nEstimate resource needs and schedule work to meet timelines, specifications and costs.\nProvide technical guidance and coordinate work performed by Engineers, Technicians, and Designers.\nEvaluate progress against technical and project goals.\nAdditional Engineering & Collaboration Duties\nProvide training and technical support to internal teams and stakeholders.\nEscalate business-related issues when appropriate.\nEngage directly with customers for Voice of Customer (VOC) studies or technical troubleshooting.\nInterface with third-party contracting partners for engineering resource support.\nWork with third-party suppliers for technical services, component sourcing, contract manufacturing, or testing.\nManage work schedules to align with project timelines.\nWork independently and within cross-functional teams.\nCollaborate closely with Software Development Engineers and non-R&D functions.\nSupport suppliers, vendors, and consultants; participate in supplier visits and process-improvement initiatives.\nCoordinate testing with third-party labs (e.g., NRTL, environmental, HALT).\nUse complex engineering test equipment and general laboratory tools.\nConduct experiments and troubleshoot designs in a lab environment.\nApply electrical safety and ESD principles.\nComplete required training and utilize Fortive Business Systems tools.\nPerform other engineering duties as assigned.\nProvide technical supervision and coordination for Engineers and Technicians.\nStandard scheduled working hours.\nDomestic and international travel may be required.\nQualifications\nKnowledge, Skills & Abilities - Required\nBachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5 years of embedded design experience\nAnalog and high-speed digital circuit design\nCadence/OrCAD Capture and PCB Editor or equivalent \nProficiency with PSPICE and engineering simulation tools \nFirmware development with C, C++, JAVA, VHDL, and Python\nHands-on experience with digital multimeters, mixed-signal oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers \nPreferred\nMaster’s Degree + 3 years of embedded design experience\nPhD\nUnderstanding of project management principles \nDesign for Manufacturing and Design for Testability\nKnowledge of Electrical Safety and Test Standards\nDomestic and international travel may be required.\nWill need to adhere to Work Environment regarding Health & Safety Requirements (EHS) and Occupational Hazards\nProficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project\nStrong verbal and written communication\nElectrical Safety & Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection\nDesign for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT)\nKnowledge of relevant Safety and Test Standards\nWill need to adhere to Work Environment regarding Health & Safety Requirements (EHS) and Occupational Hazards\nFortive Corporation Overview\nFortive's essential technology makes the world safer and more productive.
