This role operates at the intersection of technology strategy, enterprise architecture, and delivery leadership-partnering with HR, Finance, IT, Security, and Data/Analytics stakeholders to ensure Workday remains a secure, scalable, and resilient system of record. The Workday Architect sets platform guardrails, defines secure integration and data patterns, and guides engineers and administrators to deliver high-quality outcomes.\n\nWHAT YOU'LL DO\nSolution Architecture & Design\nLead end-to-end architecture and solution design across Workday HCM and Financials, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and business strategy.\nTranslate complex business requirements into scalable Workday designs (configuration, business processes, reporting approach, and integration patterns).\nDefine and maintain architecture roadmaps, reference architectures, and design patterns that enable consistent delivery and reduce technical debt.\nSecurity & Identity Architecture\nDefine and govern Workday security architecture, including role frameworks, domain/business process security, and least-privilege access models.\nPartner with IAM and Security teams to ensure SSO, identity lifecycle (joiner/mover/leaver), and access reviews are correctly integrated and auditable.\nEstablish and enforce segregation-of-duties (SoD) principles and controls; support audit evidence and remediation activities related to Workday access and process controls.\nIntegration & Data Strategy\nArchitect and oversee integrations and data flows between Workday and connected enterprise platforms (e.g., IAM, payroll, finance, CRM, ITSM, data warehouse).\nSet standards for integration reliability (monitoring, error handling, reconciliation, and recovery) and ensure integrations remain supportable through releases.\nDefine data governance patterns for Workday extracts/feeds, including secure handling of sensitive data (PII/financial data) and alignment with enterprise analytics standards.\nRelease, Environment & Change Governance\nOwn or co-own Workday tenant strategy (prod/sandbox/preview), migration approach, and controls for configuration promotion to production.\nLead bi-annual Workday release impact assessments and coordinate technical readiness (regression/integration testing strategy, cutover validation, and stabilization).\nEstablish change governance for Workday platform changes, including standards for documentation, approvals, and operational handoff.\nPlatform Leadership & Optimization\nServe as the technical authority for Workday platform decisions; provide architectural oversight across projects, enhancements, and incident/problem remediation.\nDrive platform optimization efforts (performance, configuration rationalization, data quality, and reliability improvements).\nEvaluate new Workday features, modules, and capabilities; recommend adoption strategies and roadmap enhancements based on business value and risk.\nStakeholder Engagement & Delivery Leadership\nPartner with HR, Finance, IT, and cross-functional leaders to align priorities, scope solutions, and communicate trade-offs and risks.\nGuide and mentor Workday engineers, administrators, and analysts; promote consistent engineering practices, testing discipline, and knowledge sharing.\nCollaborate with external partners and vendors to ensure high-quality delivery and adherence to architecture and security standards.\nScope / Boundaries\nThis role provides architectural leadership and governance; day-to-day administration, provisioning, and routine operational requests are handled by Workday Administrators and IAM Operations.\nBusiness process ownership and policy decisions remain with HR and Finance Product Owners; the architect ensures designs are implementable, secure, and supportable.\n\nQUALIFICATIONS\n7+ years of hands-on Workday experience with strong expertise in both HCM and Financials.\nProven experience architecting Workday solutions in complex enterprise environments, including security, business processes, integrations, and reporting patterns.\nDeep understanding of Workday security model, business process framework, and integration technologies (e.g., EIB, Core Connectors, Studio, PECI).\nExperience with Workday release management, tenant strategy, and platform governance.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and guide cross-functional teams.\nBachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).\nTypically requires five or more years of progressive experience in enterprise applications, architecture, or platform engineering roles, including Workday.\nArchitecture & design: ability to define patterns, standards, and roadmaps that scale.\nSecurity & compliance: least privilege, access governance, SoD, audit readiness, and data protection.\nIntegration & data: API/integration patterns, monitoring/reliability, and secure data delivery to downstream platforms.\nCommunication: able to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-technical stakeholders.\nLeadership: mentoring, decision facilitation, and cross-team coordination in project and operational contexts.\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\nWorkday certifications in HCM, Financials, Integrations, or Architecture.\nExperience with large-scale Workday implementations, multi-phase rollouts, or post-merger harmonization.\nFamiliarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and integration middleware/API-based patterns.\nCompensation: 90,000 USD - 110,000 USD\nReady to join us?\nAt Fortra, our compensation philosophy prioritizes fair market value and internal equity, aligning with your experience and specialized skill set.\nAs a full-time, exempt employee at Fortra, you’ll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes:\nHealth, dental, and vision coverage as of hire\n\nImmediate enrollment in 401(k), HSA, and FSA plans\n\nFlexible PTO policy\n\nTuition and personal enrichment reimbursement\n\nOption to enroll in ID Theft Protection Program\n\nAt Fortra, work is only part of the story.
