The qualified candidate will coordinate all activities of dockworkers, drivers and other support personnel. The supervisor will provide planning for, direction to, and will control available resources associated with the timely, damage-free, and safe loading/unloading of freight on assigned shifts. In addition, the supervisor will provide dockworker and driver training, performance feedback, and provide disciplinary recommendations when necessary. Previous experience with cargo operations is a plus.\nCore Responsibilities & Duties:\nEnsure all work is performed according to Forward Air approved procedures, standards, and specifications for dock operations\nDirectly supervise all activities of dockworkers and support personnel engaged in loading and unloading trucks and trailers\nAssign job tasks to workers according to unloading and loading schedules\nProvide guidance to subordinates on goals and objectives on a weekly basis\nField customer calls on service issues, special service request, rates and new accounts\nEnsure proper maintenance of facility, forklift equipment, trailers and handling supplies\nExecute appropriate load plans and proper load balance to ensure safe vehicle operation\nCoordinate work assignments, monitor performance, and provide training on relevant job duties\nMaintain facility appearance, condition and security\nMaintain record of those responsible for trailer seal verifications\nPerform security checks when facility is dark or during Holiday breaks\nPerform facility inspections\nAssist in the loading and unloading of trailers\nFoster safe handling, loading, unloading, and storage of Hazardous Materials as provided by the Department of Transportation\nManage the dispatch of over the road line haul drivers, as well as all safety aspects both in the building and on the road\nMust be able to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds\nMust be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to ninety (90) pounds\nOther duties as assigned\nQualifications:\nStrong team player that thrives in a fast-paced environment\nAbility to drive performance of direct reports and lead a team in a lean manufacturing environment\nPrior air freight experience is required\nInternational/Import experience is a plus\nMust have two (2) or more years of supervisory experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment\nMust possess demonstrated leadership ability\nKnowledge of proper freight handling techniques\nKnowledge of Hazardous Materials handling\nAbility to communicate effectively with all levels of operations\nMust be flexible to work weekends and nights\nForklift and general freight handling experience\nSkills:\nIdeal candidate will possess a “can do” attitude with a “will do” work ethic\nMust have the ability to work in a fast paced environment\nGeneral computer skills -
