We are seeking a hands-on Full Stack Tech Lead Engineer to lead the design and delivery of modern, intuitive enterprise applications with a strong emphasis on UI/UX, front-end architecture, accessibility, and user-centered engineering.\nThis role combines full stack engineering depth with technical leadership. The successful candidate will establish reusable front-end patterns, translate complex business workflows into clear user experiences, define service and API integration approaches, and guide engineers through architecture, development, testing, deployment, and production support.\nOur Impact:\nThe Identity and Access Management team, part of the Enterprise Business Technology Operation (BTO) organization, enables business operational excellence through the flexible use of technology. The department provides IT strategic services (software development, enhancements, and production support) to support the needs of the Enterprise groups - External Relations and Corporate Communications, Finance, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Legal, Operational Resilience, and Regulatory Affairs. This role will be focused within IAM and ensure platform stability, drive operational efficiencies, support incident response activities, and continuously improve service delivery through process optimization, automation, and proactive risk management.\nYour Impact:\nLead front-end and full stack architecture for modern enterprise web applications.\nProvide hands-on technical direction to engineers while also personally contributing\nPartner with product owners, business stakeholders, and engineers to convert requirements into clear user journeys and scalable solutions.\nEstablish and govern reusable design systems, component libraries, interaction patterns, and front-end engineering standards.\nCreate prototypes and be able to translate them into production-quality interfaces using React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS.\nChampion responsive design, usability, and performance.\nDesign and integrate REST APIs, services, databases, and enterprise integrations across the full application stack.\nDefine clear API contracts, data structures, error-handling patterns, authentication and authorization approaches, and observability requirements.\nLead architecture reviews, design reviews, code reviews, technical problem solving, and root-cause analysis.\nPromote automated unit, integration, API, UI, accessibility, and end-to-end testing within CI/CD pipelines.\nMentor engineers, strengthen front-end and full stack capabilities, and establish practical reference patterns the team can reuse.\nIdentify and reduce technical debt while balancing delivery commitments, platform standards, security requirements, and long-term maintainability\nQualifications:\nApproximately 8 or more years of software engineering experience, including significant full stack application development.\nAt least 3 years of experience providing technical leadership for application teams or major engineering initiatives.\nDeep hands-on experience with a modern front-end framework, preferably React and TypeScript.\nStrong knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, browser architecture, responsive design, and performance optimization.\nExperience creating or extending reusable component libraries and enterprise design systems.\nDemonstrated understanding of UX principles, interaction design, information architecture, usability, and accessible design.\nStrong experience designing, documenting, securing, and consuming RESTful APIs.\nBack-end development experience with Java and Spring Boot, Node.js, or comparable enterprise frameworks.\nExperience with relational databases, Git-based development, automated testing, and CI/CD.\nStrong understanding of secure coding, authentication, authorization, session management, API security, and application logging.\nDemonstrated ability to lead technical design discussions, communicate trade-offs, and mentor engineers.\nCollege degree or equivalent experience; Advanced studies/degree preferred. \nKeys to Success in this Role:\nHands-on technical credibility across UI, services, APIs, data, testing, security, and production support.\nAbility to simplify complex user and business workflows without compromising control, security, or maintainability.\nStrong collaboration with product, architecture, information security, infrastructure, and engineering partners.\nClear communication of technical decisions, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs to both technical and nontechnical audiences.\nA player-coach mindset that combines architecture ownership, coding, mentoring, and delivery accountability.\nCurrent Freddie Mac employees please apply through the internal career site.\nWe consider all applicants for all positions without regard to gender, race, color, religion, national origin, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, physical and mental disability, pregnancy, ethnicity, genetic information or any other protected categories under applicable federal, state or local laws.
