Now we're raising the visual and experiential quality of our digital product to match the brand we've built.\nWe're looking for a Senior UX/UI Designer with a strong emphasis on visual design excellence. We need someone who takes a good interface and makes it exceptional: someone who obsesses over typography, spacing, layout, colour, consistency, and the finer details that elevate a design from functional to memorable. UX knowledge and an understanding of user journeys are important. Visual design craftsmanship is where you must truly excel.\nThis role owns the Freebird design system, the UI across our digital surfaces, and the visual quality bar the whole team builds toward. You'll work closely with our Senior Director of Design and collaborate with product and engineering to ship work that looks and feels as good as it performs.\nYou'll report to the Senior Director of Design. This role is 100% remote. We require meaningful overlap with US working hours.\nIf you obsess over the details that make digital products feel premium, and you've been waiting for a seat where that craft is genuinely valued, this role is for you.\nWhat You'll Own\nSet the Visual Design Standard\nThis is the heart of the role.\nCreate beautiful, polished, premium digital experiences that represent Freebird at its best across every touchpoint.\nTake good interfaces and make them exceptional through meticulous attention to typography, layout, colour, spacing, and visual detail.\nApply a strong visual point of view that pushes design beyond execution and into craft.\nMaintain a consistently high quality bar across web and app surfaces without needing to be managed on the basics.\nSet the visual standard that the rest of the design team builds toward.\nBuild and Maintain the Freebird Design System\nThe design system is the foundation that holds the visual standard across everything.\nOwn the component library, design tokens, and pattern documentation in Figma.\nMaintain version control and governance so the system grows predictably and consistently.\nAct as the consistency gatekeeper: reviewing team output, flagging deviations, and evolving the system as the product expands.\nCollaborate with engineers on implementation so that what's designed is what ships.\nCreate clear specifications that enable smooth, low-back-and-forth implementation.\nLead UX Design with Strong Visual Judgment\nDesign responsive, accessible experiences across desktop and mobile, led by strong visual instinct.\nCreate user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that are both functionally sound and visually sharp.\nApply UX knowledge to make well-structured, user-centered design decisions independently.\nValidate and improve designs using product data and customer feedback after launch.\nShip Production-Ready UI at Senior Velocity\nTake stakeholder briefs to polished, production-ready designs within sprint cadence.\nDeliver complete handoffs to engineering: specs, interaction notes, edge-case coverage.\nContribute to sprint planning and grooming by estimating accurately and delivering on commitments.\nSupport design quality reviews so that what ships matches what was designed.\nContribute to the Design Culture\nBring a strong visual point of view to critiques and team discussions.\nSupport junior designers and help establish shared ways of working as the function grows.\nPresent design decisions clearly and respond constructively to feedback at all levels, including from a CEO with strong design opinions.\nWhat Success Looks Like\nWithin your first 6-12 months:\nFreebird's digital surfaces look and feel noticeably more premium than when you joined.\nA documented, scalable design system is used consistently across all digital touchpoints.\nDesign handoffs are clean, complete, and require minimal clarification from engineering.\nYou are the person the team goes to when the visual quality of something isn't right.\nJunior designers have a clear visual standard to work toward and structured feedback to guide them.\nRequirements\nWe're looking for an exceptional UI/UX designer with a strong emphasis on visual design. Outstanding craft is the requirement. Strong UX knowledge is the complement.\n5+ years of professional UX/UI or product design experience, with a track record of delivering high-quality digital products end-to-end.\nA portfolio that demonstrates exceptional visual design quality across real digital products. We want to see your eye, your craft, and your attention to detail, not just your process.\nProven experience building, maintaining, or significantly contributing to a design system used in a live product.\nStrong skills in visual design: typography, layout, colour, hierarchy, spacing, and the ability to create polished, premium interfaces.\nSolid UX knowledge: user journeys, information architecture, wireframes, and prototyping. Enough to make sound, independent design decisions.\nSolid understanding of accessibility principles and inclusive design (WCAG familiarity required).\nAdvanced proficiency in Figma.\nAbility to work autonomously, communicate blockers proactively, and maintain momentum without waiting for perfect processes.\nNice to Have\nExperience designing for DTC ecommerce, subscription products, or consumer digital experiences.\nFamiliarity with Shopify or headless commerce environments.\nCRO awareness or interest in conversion-focused design (our team generates the ideas, you execute).\nUnderstanding of HTML and CSS constraints.\nExperience mentoring designers or running design critique sessions.\nBenefits\nVisual quality is taken seriously here.
