This person is responsible for all things related to the general supervision of Clinical Laboratory personnel and the daily operations of the Analytical Laboratory. The Clinical Laboratory General Supervisor will often be the first point of contact for CLSs and Laboratory Associates during laboratory processing and will provide guidance while troubleshooting complex problems. The Clinical Laboratory General Supervisor may also perform high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, interpret and report patient results, and perform quality control and quality assurance procedures while complying with all applicable local, state, and federal laboratory requirements. The Clinical Laboratory General Supervisor must demonstrate the ability to analyze complex issues and make sound decisions in a timely manner, commitment to helping and motivating employees, the ability to respond to difficult issues quickly, fairly, and ethically, outstanding organizational skills, the ability to respond to change with flexibility and to adapt quickly to evolving circumstances, and excellent communication skills including utilizing various communication channels, proactively communicating team goals and priorities clearly, openly and objectively, and communicating changes, issues, and challenges in all directions of the organization.\nThe role reports to the Senior Director, Laboratory Operations.\nWorking Hours:\nThe standard hours of this position are Monday to Friday 10:00am-6:30pm (subject to change to support business needs). Onboarding training hours for this role are 7:30am-4:00pm and can last for up to two months. Periodic weekend rotations will be required for approximately 6 months.\nWhat you’ll do:\nProviding day-to-day supervision of laboratory personnel\nBeing responsible for the daily operations of the laboratory, including but not limited to scheduling and independently troubleshooting and resolving technical and non-technical high-complexity problems that adversely affect test performance\nPerforming administrative duties, including but not limited to writing employee performance evaluations and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, protocols, training forms, QC forms, and equipment maintenance forms\nPerforming annual review of SOPs and work instructions\nCoaching and mentoring Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLSs) and laboratory associates, including but not limited to providing guidance and constructive feedback and assisting with the development of the troubleshooting and judgment skills of CLSs and laboratory associates\nManaging the testing and validation of new procedures and laboratory equipment\nPerforming laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses according to the laboratory's SOPs, as needed\nReviewing, interpreting, and reporting study results in the company’s laboratory information management system (LIMS) as assigned\nPerforming, reviewing, and documenting laboratory QC procedures, as needed\nPossessing strong technical expertise in assay troubleshooting \nPossessing strong working knowledge of the LIMS platform, including end-to-end workflow functionality, and troubleshooting\nOperating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, as needed\nLeading and/or assisting with the training of existing laboratory personnel in new procedures and the training of new laboratory personnel\nLeading internal and external inspection preparation activities\nParticipating in quality assurance activities\nEffectively communicating technical information to technical and non-technical audiences\nMaintaining stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues that might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives as necessary for resolution\nReviewing equipment maintenance records, and temperature monitoring reports \nCollaborating with Environmental Health and Safety Officer, overseeing laboratory safety and reporting safety concerns to Safety Officer and Manager\nLeading the on-boarding activities for the new laboratory personnel\nOverseeing personnel documentation and training records\nEffectively collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Automation Team, Development Team, Quality Team and laboratory Information Management Team and more\nLeading the execution of of assay improvements, new assay configurations, and validation in the Analytical Laboratory\nMust haves:\nPossess a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist license \nBachelor of Arts or Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science or related field\nSix or more years of CLS licensed work experience in a clinical laboratory setting\nPossess working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations \nStrong understanding of good laboratory practices and regulatory compliance \nThe ability to prioritize tasks with a high emphasis on quality\nStrong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail\nStrong leadership skills\nExcellent communication skills\nThe ability to be a strong team player, with a demonstrated track record of success in a cross-functional team environment\nNice to haves:\nTwo or more years of supervisory experience preferred\nExperience working with laboratory automation such as Hamilton or Bravo liquid handlers\nPhysical Demands and Working Environment:\nHours and days may vary depending on operational needs\nStanding or sitting for long periods of time may be necessary\nBenefits and additional information:\nThe US target range of ourbase salary ratefor new hires is $166,250 - $194,775.
