This opportunity is suited to engineers who can build scalable backend systems, debug complex issues, implement features, optimize performance, and assess software from a security perspective.\nYou’ll create realistic coding challenges for AI systems, develop solutions and deterministic verifiers, and evaluate whether implementations correctly handle valid and invalid scenarios. Prior AI experience is not required.\nKey Responsibilities\nBackend Engineering & Development\nCreate realistic and challenging backend coding tasks involving feature implementation and bug fixing.\n\nDevelop and modify backend services and APIs.\n\nImplement complex features in large-scale applications.\n\nWork with established codebases and engineering architectures.\n\nSecurity Engineering\nApply secure coding principles when developing and reviewing backend systems.\n\nPerform security-focused code reviews and identify potential vulnerabilities.\n\nApply knowledge of penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, and application security where relevant.\n\nConsider security risks and common vulnerability patterns when evaluating implementations.\n\nDebugging & Performance\nIdentify and resolve software bugs and system bottlenecks.\n\nDiagnose backend performance issues.\n\nOptimize code for performance, reliability, and maintainability.\n\nRefactor existing codebases where improvements are required.\n\nTesting & Verification\nDevelop deterministic verifiers that accept reasonable valid solutions and reject invalid implementations.\n\nApply automated testing practices to validate software behavior.\n\nEvaluate solutions against expected functionality, edge cases, and technical requirements.\n\nEnsure coding tasks and verification logic are precise and reliable.\n\nTechnical Evaluation & Collaboration\nReview code for correctness, quality, maintainability, and security.\n\nApply strong code-review judgment to different implementation approaches.\n\nUse algorithms, data structures, and foundational computer science principles to assess solutions.\n\nCommunicate technical reasoning clearly and concisely.\n\nRequired Skills & Experience\nStrong backend software engineering experience building scalable services and APIs.\n\nProfessional experience with one or more of:\nPython\n\nJava\n\nRust\n\nTypeScript\n\nC++\n\nGo\n\nNode.js\n\nStrong debugging and problem-solving capabilities.\n\nExperience implementing software features and resolving complex bugs.\n\nExperience with performance optimization and automated testing.\n\nStrong code review and software quality judgment.\n\nSolid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and foundational computer science concepts.\n\nExperience with codebase refactoring and maintaining production-quality software.\n\nStrong analytical and technical communication skills.\n\nAbility to work independently on challenging technical tasks.\n\nCybersecurity experience in areas such as application security, penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, secure coding, OWASP/CWE, or security-focused code review is highly valuable.\n\nCompensation\nAnnualized Equivalent: $62,400-$208,000/year based on 40 hours/week\nHourly Rate: $30-$100/hour equivalent\nCompensation is output-based and paid per completed task that meets project specifications.
