May be assigned to Head Start routes, Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) routes,\nparatransit routes, special trips, or other transportation services based on operational needs and the\nemployee’s qualifications, licenses, certifications, and training.\nAssist in the fulfillment of the Organization’s vision and mission.\nDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\nSafely transports students and authorized staff between designated pick-up and drop-off locations, including\nschool routes, Head Start routes, field trips, special events, and other approved destinations.\nSupervises, guides, coaches, and assists passengers during loading and unloading and ensures they follow\nall applicable passenger-safety and conduct requirements.\nOperates all school bus safety equipment properly, including warning lights, stop arms, emergency exits, and\npassenger doors.\nConducts required post-trip inspections to confirm that no child or passenger remains aboard the vehicle.\nComplies with all federal and state laws, regulations, certification requirements, and organization\nprocedures applicable to the operation of a school bus and the transportation of students.\nProvides routine operational support at assigned Head Start sites during non-driving periods. Duties may\ninclude organizing or preparing program areas, restocking supplies, moving or arranging toys and\nequipment, light cleaning, and other site-support activities as assigned.\nSafely operates assigned organization vehicles to transport passengers and staff between designated pickup\nand drop-off locations, including regular routes, field trips, special events, and other approved\ndestinations.\nPerforms assigned school bus, para-transit, relief, standby, or other transportation duties based on\noperational needs and applicable licensing and qualification requirements.\nWhen not assigned to an active route or trip, remains available in a standby or relief capacity and performs\nother transportation or operational duties as directed.\nEnsures all passengers are properly seated and secured before operating the vehicle.\nSafely operates wheelchair lifts and other accessibility equipment when loading and unloading passengers.\nEnsures wheelchairs, mobility devices, and related equipment are properly secured before the vehicle is\nmoved.\nConducts required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle in accordance with federal and\nstate requirements and organization procedures.\nInspects brakes, lights, horn, emergency equipment, doors, wheelchair lifts, and other vehicle systems to\nensure the vehicle can be operated safely.\nCompletes and submits required vehicle inspection, condition, mileage, trip, and other operational reports\naccurately and timely.\nImmediately reports mechanical problems, safety concerns, vehicle damage, accidents, incidents, or needed\nrepairs.\nCollects and reports required information following an accident or incident.\nMaintains the cleanliness and general condition of the assigned vehicle to support safe operation and\npassenger comfort.\nMaintains a safe and orderly environment aboard the vehicle by enforcing passenger conduct requirements\nand responding appropriately to emergencies.\nOperates assigned vehicles safely in varying traffic, weather, road, and terrain conditions.\nUses two-way radios, tablets, GPS, dispatch software, and other assigned communication or navigation\nequipment.\nReads, interprets, and follows maps, route manifests, schedules, written directions, and electronic\nnavigation instructions.\nMaintains professional and cooperative relationships with passengers, students, parents, caregivers, schoolsite\npersonnel, activity-center staff, members of the public, and organization employees.\nUses approved cleaning products, supplies, hand tools, equipment, and safety devices in accordance with\napplicable instructions and training.\nAttends required training, safety meetings, first-aid instruction, and other mandatory meetings.\nTravels for work-related business using a personal or organization vehicle.\nTravels for work related business using personal/organization vehicle.\nMaintains regular attendance and punctuality.\nWorks evenings and weekends as required.\nPerforms other duties as assigned.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nTo execute this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable\naccommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nEDUCATION:\nHigh school diploma or GED.\nEXPERIENCE:\nMust have previous experience driving with a commercial A or B license with Air Brakes, Passenger\n(P)/School Bus Endorsement (S).\nSix months of experience is preferred.\nOTHER QUALIFICATIONS:\nMust be at least 21 years of age.\nPossess and maintain a valid commercial A or B license with Air Brakes, Passenger (P)/School Bus\nEndorsement (S).\nCPR and First Aid training required within six months of hire.\nAbility to operate a tablet or other mobile device and use GPS navigation, dispatch software, and related\napplications required to perform assigned duties.\nPass required drug and alcohol testing prior to employment; will be subject to continual urine and breath\ntesting throughout employment.\nPass required background investigation including medical examination and TB clearance, acceptable\ncriminal record statement, Department of Justice fingerprint clearance, and child abuse index clearance.\nMaintain a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance in compliance with\nstate law, and meet the organization’s insurance requirements for operating organization vehicles.\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to\nsuccessfully perform the essential functions of this job.
