You'll be responsible for turning IFC Drawings, standards and project requirements into practical, buildable solutions for fabrication and installation across water, industrial and infrastructure projects.\nYou'll work closely with Project Engineers, the Workshop Manager, site teams and fabricators, supporting multiple projects at the same time. We're looking for someone who can confidently communicate using piping, fabrication and construction terminology, understands tie-ins and installation requirements, and can work with stakeholders across all stages of a project.\nSuccess in this role requires excellent time management, strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines while maintaining high-quality outputs.\nKey Responsibilities\nProduce accurate 3D models, fabrication drawings, shop drawings and installation documentation.\nDevelop practical designs for piping systems, structural steel, mechanical equipment and fabricated assemblies.\nWork across multiple projects simultaneously, managing priorities and delivery deadlines effectively.\nCommunicate with Project Engineers, Workshop Manager, site teams and other stakeholders to develop practical solutions.\nApply engineering standards, specifications and client requirements to designs and quality documentation.\nDevelop and maintain design checklists and supporting quality assurance documentation.\nSupport tie-in design, brownfield modifications and constructability reviews.\nWork closely with workshop and site teams to ensure designs can be fabricated, installed and maintained efficiently.\nContribute to standardisation, continuous improvement and future product development initiatives.\nWe're looking for someone with\nProven experience in mechanical drafting, piping design or construction-related environments.\nStrong understanding of piping systems, fabrication, installation methodologies and tie-ins.\nAbility to confidently communicate using piping and construction terminology with engineers, workshop personnel and construction teams.\nExperience interpreting standards, specifications and client requirements and applying them to practical design solutions.\nStrong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.\nExperience developing quality documentation, drawing registers and design checklists.\nSound understanding of Design for Manufacture, weld symbols, revision control and fabrication detailing.\nExperience with stainless steel and carbon steel fabrication.\nProficiency with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD or similar 3D CAD software.\nCareer Development & Future Opportunities\nThis role offers significant opportunities for growth as our M&E business continues to expand.\nBeyond project work, there will be opportunities to become involved in the development of standardised products and solutions that support the wider construction industry, including:\nContainerised pump stations\nWater and wastewater treatment systems\nModular mechanical infrastructure\nTemporary works steel support systems\nOther innovative products designed to improve safety, efficiency and quality outcomes across construction projects\nFor the right person, there is a pathway to become a technical leader within the team, helping mentor and develop junior CAD resources while focusing more of your time on design development, product innovation and technical solutions.\nWhy Join Our Team?\nThe M&E team is a unique part of Fulton Hogan.\nWe're a small, high-performing team within a large organisation, giving you the opportunity to make a real impact while benefiting from the resources and stability of one of New Zealand's leading infrastructure companies.\nWe've built a strong team culture based on collaboration, trust, technical excellence and continuous improvement.
