What’s on offer?

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Work Heath Safety and Environment (WHSE) Advisor to join a nationally significant Defence infrastructure project on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, located in Australia’s remote north-west Indian Ocean Territory.

Working within a major Defence-funded infrastructure project, this role provides an exceptional opportunity to establish yourself within one of Australia's fastest-growing sectors.

Working under the guidance of a Senior Advisor, this is an excellent opportunity for emerging professional who is recent in the role with interest also welcomed from exceptional graduate candidates with practical experience.

With project certainty through to the end of 2029, this role offers the rare combination of long-term stability, genuine responsibility and a career-defining scope of work.

You will play a key role in supporting development, implementation and continuous improvement of our workplace health, safety, and environment. Working closely with the project team, you will help drive a high-performance culture, ensure compliance, and provide practical advice and support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Champion Fulton Hogan’s positive safety culture and support compliance with project HSE plans, policies, and standards, reinforcing safe behaviours and consistent day-to-day safety performance.
  • Apply working knowledge of WHS and environmental legislation, Codes of Practice, industry standards, and project requirements to support compliant project delivery.
  • Deliver face-to-face inductions and assist with WHSE onboarding and mobilisation, while contributing to toolbox talks, pre-starts, site inspections, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Undertake workplace inspections and observations, identify hazards, assist with incident investigations and close-out actions, and support compliance across SWMS, risk assessments, permits, plant and equipment inspections, and environmental controls.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, registers, compliance documentation, dashboards, safety reports, and project performance data to support monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • Track workforce competencies, compliance documents, and training expiry dates, co-ordinate environmental monitoring, inspections and initiatives, and assist with implementation of the Projects Biosecurity Management Plan through monitoring, inspections, and record keeping.

We are ideally seeking:

  • A minimum Cert IV Work Health and Safety or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in a construction or industrial environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Acute attention to detail and competence in WHS administration and record-keeping.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and safety systems.
  • Confident working independently in a remote environment while remaining highly organised and responsive.
  • Experience with Salesforce / PDP-AU (or equivalent compliance systems)

If our values resonate with you, please submit an application for the position. If you’re not sure that you meet 100% of the selection criteria, that’s okay, we would still like to hear from you and potentially discuss how your skills could be utilised at Fulton Hogan.
