Together we’re building a world-class platform to amplify our teams’ most powerful ideas.\nAs part of our engineering team, you’ll shape the platforms and tools that drive high-impact research - designing systems that scale, accelerate discovery and support innovation across the firm.\nTake the next step in your career.\nThe role\nThe Observability Engineering Team manages the doors - both entry and exit - to the telemetry backends at G-Research, ensuring our engineers can effectively produce and consume telemetry for their services.\nAs an Observability Engineer, you’ll help make observability seamless for developers and platform teams by building pipes to ingest and route data in predictable, composable ways, as well as visualising that data after the fact.\nYou’ll have deep experience across observability stacks, a clear understanding of the unique problems that come with moving cloud-level volumes of telemetry data at scale and excitement at the prospect of ensuring our customers have eyes into the telemetry data to run their services as efficiently as possible.\nKnowledge of and experience running OpenTelemetry at scale, creating SDKs and libraries serving a wide variety of applications and services, is a strong plus.\nKey responsibilities of the role include:\nArchitecting, scaling and maintaining a broad range of observability backends\n\nExtending and maintaining OpenTelemetry, including collectors and SDKs\n\nBuilding scalable telemetry pipelines\n\nContributing to Golden Path SDKs and auto-instrumentation\n\nEnsuring Kubernetes workloads are fully observable and resilient\n\nEmbedding observability standards across platform and application teams\n\nImproving incident response with better telemetry coverage\n\nProviding external industry observability experience and input to our long-term roadmap\n\nWho are we looking for?\nThe ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:\nOperating/onboarding SaaS Observability platforms at scale, such as DataDog, NewRelic, Dynatrace etc.\n\nStrong hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry\n\nFamiliarity with public cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS\n\nProficiency in Kubernetes and DevOps tooling (e.g. Terraform, ArgoCD, Helm, Jenkins)\n\nExperience with metrics, logs and tracing backends\n\nScripting in Go, Python, or similar\n\nIndustry background in Observability or SRE\n\nDesirable but not essential experience includes profiling (eBPF, Pixie, Parca), synthetic monitoring, AI-observability tools and Kafka\n\nWhy should you apply?\nHighly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus\n\nLunch provided (via Just Eat for Business) and dedicated barista bar\n\n35 days’ annual leave\n\n9% company pension contributions\n\nInformal dress code and excellent work/life balance\n\nComprehensive healthcare and life assurance\n\nCycle-to-work scheme\n\nMonthly company events\n\nG-Research is committed to cultivating and preserving an inclusive work environment.
