This role focuses on the producer side: instrumentation patterns, OpenTelemetry SDKs and the collector configurations that help teams emit consistent, high-quality telemetry.\nThis role is suited to someone who enjoys creating leverage through shared engineering patterns rather than building a single product feature set. You will use your engineering and emerging AI engineering skills to improve how teams instrument, understand and operate their services across the firm.\nYou will help improve our service-level visibility, working closely with application and infrastructure teams enabling golden paths for instrumentation across C#, Python and Kubernetes-based services, and ongoing development of our observability capabilities.\nKey responsibilities\nKey responsibilities of the role include:\nExtending and maintaining OpenTelemetry SDKs, libraries and Collectors\n\nBuilding and supporting instrumentation paths across Kubernetes and non-Kubernetes workloads\n\nEmbedding observability standards across platform and application teams\n\nLeveraging AI and AI assisted engineering to accelerate productivity and value\n\nScaling and improving our telemetry backend systems and pipelines\n\nImproving incident response with better telemetry coverage\n\nParticipating on the out of hours on-call rotation\n\nWho are we looking for?\nThe ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:\nStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to turn standards into usable libraries, examples and guidance\n\nProgramming skills in C# and/or Python with a good understanding of software architecture\n\nHands-on experience with OpenTelemetry SDKs, instrumentation and Collectors\n\nProficiency in Kubernetes and cloud-native observability\n\nGood understanding of metrics, logs and traces, and how they are used by engineering teams to debug and operate services\n\nDevOps tooling experience using tools such as Terraform, ArgoCD, Helm or Jenkins\n\nInterest in AI engineering and SRE practices to improve incident response and RCA\n\nDesirable but not essential experience includes:\nPrometheus/PromQL, VictoriaMetrics, OpenSearch, Grafana or similar observability backends\n\nAuto-instrumentation, distributed tracing, structured logging or trace/metric correlation\n\nKafka or telemetry pipeline architectures\n\nWhy should you apply?\nHighly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus\n\nLunch provided (via Just Eat for Business) and dedicated barista bar\n\n35 days’ annual leave\n\n9% company pension contributions\n\nInformal dress code and excellent work/life balance\n\nComprehensive healthcare and life assurance\n\nCycle-to-work scheme\n\nMonthly company events\n\nG-Research is committed to cultivating and preserving an inclusive work environment.
