You’ll help collect field data, develop concepts and drawings, prepare report sections, perform basic calculations and quantity estimates, and observe construction activities while learning how structural engineering decisions are made on active public infrastructure projects.\nThis internship is intended for students who want more than a “desk-only” experience. You’ll see how field observations, design criteria, calculations, drawings, estimates, and construction considerations connect to real bridge and transportation projects, with guidance from experienced structural engineers.\nEssential Job Functions:\nCollect field data and document existing bridge conditions.\nSupport specific tasks on larger assignments under the guidance of experienced engineers.\nPerform standard engineering calculations and basic structural analyses.\nPrepare drawings, sketches, exhibits, and visual aids for design documents, reports, and presentations.\nObserve construction activities.\nSupport design tasks for bridge rehabilitation, bridge replacement, and other transportation-related structures.\nPrepare quantity calculations for construction cost estimates.\nAttend project meetings with senior staff to learn how technical decisions are discussed, documented, and advanced.\nDraft report sections, meeting notes, and other written documents for review by senior staff.\nPerform basic QA/QC tasks, including checking your own work for completeness, consistency, and calculation or drafting errors before review.\nAttend client, public, and project-team meetings with senior staff to observe how infrastructure projects move from planning through delivery.\nJob Requirements:\nCandidates should be working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline from an ABET/EAC-accredited program or approved equivalent. Strong candidates are self-motivated, organized, curious, willing to ask questions, and able to manage multiple assignments in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
