It's an opportunity to influence the architecture, reliability, performance and future scalability of a global IoT platform at an exciting stage of growth.\nWhy This Role Matters\nEvery eShepherd neckband continuously streams data from the field to our cloud platform.\nAs customer adoption accelerates, we're expanding into new regions, supporting increasing device volumes and introducing new capabilities on top of the same foundation.\nYou'll be the engineer helping us answer questions like:\nHow do we scale before customers feel the pain?\n\nWhere are the bottlenecks hiding?\n\nHow do we design infrastructure that supports global growth?\n\nYou'll work closely with our software engineers, cloud specialists and product teams across Melbourne and Hamilton while playing a critical role in supporting our growing North American business.\nWhat You'll Be Doing\nYou'll:\nDesign, build and optimise scalable AWS cloud infrastructure\n\nAnalyse system performance, capacity and reliability at scale\n\nImprove database performance, architecture and operational efficiency\n\nBuild and maintain Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling\n\nStrengthen monitoring, observability and incident response practices\n\nHelp shape multi-region and global platform architecture\n\nInvestigate and solve complex performance and scalability challenges\n\nSupport production environments that are relied upon by customers every day\n\nPartner with customer-facing teams to understand how our platform performs in real-world environments\n\nInfluence engineering decisions through experimentation, evidence and data-driven insights\n\nThis is a highly autonomous role where you'll uncover problems, challenge assumptions, bring evidence and help define the solution.\nWhat You'll Bring\nWe're looking for someone who is curious, practical and enjoys solving difficult technical challenges.\nYou'll likely bring:\nExperience managing and scaling production AWS environments\n\nStrong knowledge of MySQL performance tuning and database optimisation\n\nExperience with containerised environments, including ECS and/or EKS\n\nExpertise in monitoring, alerting and incident management\n\nInfrastructure as Code experience, ideally using Terraform\n\nStrong CI/CD and automation skills\n\nPython, Node.js or similar scripting capability\n\nExperience diagnosing performance, reliability and scalability issues\n\nExcellent communication skills and the ability to work across distributed teams\n\nBonus Points For Experience With\nIoT platforms and connected devices\n\nMQTT, LTE-M, NB-IoT or LoRa\n\nGrafana, Prometheus or similar observability tooling\n\nMulti-region cloud deployments\n\nDevSecOps practices\n\nHigh-volume telemetry or time-series systems\n\nA Different Kind of Engineering Role\nThe systems you build directly influence:\nAnimal welfare\n\nFarm productivity\n\nCustomer success\n\nGlobal platform scalability\n\nThe future of digital agriculture\n\nYou'll see the real-world impact of what you build, from remote stations in Australia to ranches across North America.\nSupporting a Global Customer Base\nThis role plays an important part in supporting our growing North American customer base.\nTo ensure strong coverage during US business hours, work outside traditional Australian business hours is a core component of this role.
