Working in an agile product team, you’ll design, develop, test and support embedded software, collaborating with hardware engineers, architects and product teams to solve complex challenges and deliver technology trusted by customers worldwide.\nWhat you'll be working with:\nYou'll be working close to the hardware: embedded Linux and RTOS platforms on ARM-based silicon, board bring-up and debugging alongside our electronics engineers, and modern C++ in a codebase supported by robust CI pipelines and automated testing.\nBecause security is the product, not a feature bolted on, secure boot, hardware-backed key storage, and cryptography are part of the design conversation from day one. These products have long lifecycles, with devices shipped today expected to remain reliable and trustworthy in the field for a decade or more. This shapes how we think about quality, upgradability, and technical debt.\nWhat you’ll be doing:\nDesigning, developing and maintaining embedded software components and features\nCollaborating with hardware engineers on board bring-up, debugging and software integration\nContributing to requirements, solution design and technical documentation\nAnalysing software performance and identifying opportunities for improvement\nSupporting existing products through troubleshooting and technical problem solving\nParticipating in code reviews, automated testing and quality improvement initiatives\nEstimating work, managing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes within agile teams\nContinuously developing your technical capability and contributing to engineering best practice\nAbout You\nYou're a practical problem-solver who thrives on working close to the hardware and developing robust embedded solutions. You bring a collaborative approach, strong communication skills, and a continuous improvement mindset to everything you do.\nYou'll also bring:\nA relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience\nAt least 3 years' commercial software development experience\nStrong Embedded C/C++ development skills\nKnowledge of digital electronics, microprocessors and embedded systems\nExperience with debugging tools, version control systems and modern development environments\nExperience with automated testing and software quality practices\nUnderstanding of multi-threaded and asynchronous applications\nExposure to board bring-up, driver development or embedded Linux environments\nPython and/or Ruby experience would be advantageous\nThe ability to work effectively within an agile, cross-functional team\nExposure to cryptography, embedded security concepts or Zephyr OS is a plus\nWorking at Gallagher\nYou’ll be part of a global, future-focused organisation where creativity and innovation are valued and supported.
