Gallagher is a New Zealand technology manufacturer known for electric fencing and access control systems. Its security division builds perimeter protection and site management software used by governments and critical infrastructure. The company exports to more than a hundred and thirty countries.

Build technology that performs where it matters most.

From New Zealand's hill country to the Australian outback and the vast ranches of North America, eShepherd technology is helping farmers manage livestock more efficiently in some of the world's most demanding environments.

As we continue to scale globally, every insight from the field is an opportunity to build a better product.

That's where you come in.

As our Product Reliability Engineer, you'll connect what happens in the paddock with the engineers designing tomorrow's technology. You'll transform field insights, warranty data and technical investigations into lasting product improvements that strengthen reliability, improve customer experience and help shape the future of farming.

Why eShepherd?

At eShepherd, we're redefining livestock management through virtual fencing technology that's changing the way farmers work around the world.

You'll join a high-growth AgTech business backed by Gallagher, combining the agility of a scale-up with the stability of a global organisation trusted by farmers for more than 85 years. Work alongside talented engineers, product specialists and customer teams solving real-world challenges that make a genuine difference on farms around the world.

Alongside a competitive salary and annual performance bonus, you'll enjoy:

  • Flexible working that supports work-life balance.

  • Free onsite parking, a subsidised café and great local eateries.

  • Life & Disability Insurance.

  • Boost App membership and exclusive Gallagher staff discounts.

  • Ongoing professional development and global career opportunities.

  • Team events, guest speakers, wellbeing initiatives and an inclusive, collaborative culture.

The opportunity

This is more than a reliability engineering role.

You'll become the technical link between our customers, engineering and field teams - translating real-world product performance into meaningful engineering improvements. Through structured investigations, data analysis and cross-functional collaboration, you'll identify root causes, influence product priorities and help improve the reliability of a globally deployed IoT platform.

If you enjoy solving complex engineering problems and seeing your work make a measurable impact, you'll thrive here.

What you'll do

You'll lead investigations into product reliability and performance issues across the global eShepherd platform, and:

  • Turn warranty data, field insights and customer feedback into product improvements

  • Drive structured root cause investigations that deliver permanent solutions-not temporary fixes.

  • Partner with Product, R&D, Manufacturing, Operations and Customer Success to prioritise and implement product improvements.

  • Build reliability reporting that helps engineering teams make better product decisions.

  • Support regional Service Engineers and On-Farm Technical Support teams with complex product investigations.

  • Champion continuous improvement by strengthening systems, processes

  • Occasional travel to support field investigations and work alongside regional teams

What you'll bring

You'll likely have experience in Product Reliability Engineering, Systems Engineering, Quality Engineering, Field Engineering or another technical discipline where you've investigated product performance and improved complex products.

You're an engineer who enjoys getting to the bottom of complex problems. You're naturally curious, practical in your approach and motivated by improving products that customers rely on every day.

You'll also bring:

  • An engineering qualification (or equivalent technical capability).

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach to root cause analysis.

  • Experience working with hardware, electronics, IoT or connected products.

  • Confidence using technical data, warranty information and customer feedback to identify trends and drive improvements.

  • The ability to collaborate across Product, R&D, Operations, Customer Success and Technical Support.

  • A curious, adaptable mindset and excellent communication skills in a fast-moving environment.

  • Experience within AgTech, manufacturing or product development would be highly regarded but isn't essential.

Why this role matters

Every investigation you lead creates lasting impact.

Every insight improves the next product release.

Every improvement helps farmers spend less time troubleshooting and more time farming.

If you're excited by solving difficult engineering problems and want to build technology that's shaping the future of farming, we'd love to hear from you.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the position may be filled before the closing date. If this sounds like your next challenge, we'd encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
