As part of our growth strategy, we have brought together our engineering expertise into a dedicated design function that provides specialist support across our regional businesses nationwide.\nOur Temporary Works team plays a critical role in supporting not only the Environment Business, but also our Highways and Building divisions, delivering safe, practical and innovative temporary works solutions across a diverse range of projects.\nPurpose of the Role\nWe are looking for a talented Temporary Works Design Engineer to join our growing Engineering Design team.\nReporting to a Principal or Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing high-quality temporary works designs and design checks in accordance with Galliford Try's Business Management System (BMS), industry standards and CDM regulations.\nWorking as part of a specialist team, you will contribute to a broad range of temporary works solutions including excavation support systems, working platforms, formwork, falsework, slope stability assessments and scaffolding. You'll also support value engineering initiatives, alternative design solutions and technical problem-solving throughout project delivery.\nThis is an excellent opportunity for a civil or structural engineer looking to develop their technical expertise within a leading infrastructure business while progressing towards professional chartership.\nWhat You'll Be Doing\nAs a Temporary Works Design Engineer, you will:\nProduce temporary works calculations, specifications, design reports and technical documentation.\nDevelop designs for excavation support, working platforms, slope stability, formwork and falsework systems.\nSupport the production of temporary works drawings and design deliverables.\nAssist with the development of innovative, practical and cost-effective engineering solutions.\nContribute to value engineering initiatives and buildability reviews.\nReview and coordinate supply chain temporary works designs.\nSupport tender activities through preliminary designs, technical assessments and engineering input.\nProvide technical support throughout feasibility, design, construction and commissioning phases.\nAssist project teams in managing design risks and compliance requirements.\nSupport graduate and assistant engineers through mentoring and technical guidance as your experience develops.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign & Technical Delivery\nPrepare temporary works design calculations, specifications and design notes.\nDeliver designs in accordance with project requirements, design briefs and approved standards.\nIdentify opportunities for technical improvements, innovation and cost savings.\nEnsure designs are completed within programme requirements and agreed budgets.\nSupport the resolution of technical challenges during project delivery.\nContribute to whole-life cost assessments and feasibility studies where required.\nTemporary Works Expertise\nTypical projects may include:\nExcavation support systems\nTemporary earthworks solutions\nWorking platforms\nFormwork and falsework\nScaffolding systems\nTemporary access arrangements\nSlope stability assessments\nExperience in any of the following would also be advantageous:\nReinforced concrete design\nStructural steel design\nTemporary bridging solutions\nGeotechnical engineering\nHighway engineering\nDrainage design\nHealth, Safety & Risk Management\nPromote the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance.\nUndertake design risk assessments and support the elimination or reduction of hazards through design.\nEnsure designs comply with CDM Regulations and relevant legislation.\nSupport the development of a positive safety culture across projects and teams.\nMaintain accurate records of design assumptions, risks and mitigations.\nCollaboration & Continuous Improvement\nBuild strong working relationships with project teams, clients and supply chain partners.\nShare lessons learned and best practice across the design team.\nSupport the development and improvement of engineering processes and procedures.\nContribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the temporary works function.\nMaintain compliance with Galliford Try's Business Management System.\nAbout You\nWe're looking for a motivated and technically capable engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering soil mechanics and geotechnical principles.\nPrevious engineering design experience within a contractor, consultant, temporary works specialist or supplier environment.\nExperience preparing engineering calculations and technical reports.\nKnowledge of design risk management and CDM principles.\nExperience using engineering analysis and design software.\nUnderstanding of CAD systems and engineering design tools.\nQualifications\nDegree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (2:2 or above).\nUnderstanding of UK health and safety legislation, including CDM 2015.\nWorking towards membership of a recognised professional institution such as:ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers)\nIStructE (Institution of Structural Engineers)\n\nFull UK driving licence desirable.\nWillingness to
