General Description
The purpose of this class is to assist in the repair and maintenance of department vehicles and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Repairs to vehicle brake, maintain vehicle services, also mowers.
- Performs vehicle, and mowers engine repairs.
- Performs diagnostics, troubleshoots, and makes repairs.
- Performs on-the-road repairs of disabled road equipment and vehicles.
- Operates road equipment and vehicles for testing purposes.
- Maintains records of repair work done.
- Repairs gas-operated small engine equipment.
- Repairs all vehicles and equipment.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Requires six months of automotive repair experience or closely related experience.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
The work is typically performed in a service center occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery and chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
- Requires a Texas vehicle inspector license within 6 months of employment.
- Requires FEMA 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications within 6 months of employment.
- Requires Commercial Driver's License class B (minimum). Within 1 year of employment.
