Asa Database Engineer, a typical day will include the following duties:\nJOB DESCRIPTION\nWe are seeking a highly experienced Database Engineer with demonstrated expertise in relational database technologies across both on-premises and cloud environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep hands-on technical knowledge, strong engineering design, and the ability to collaborate effectively across infrastructure, application, security, and data teams.\nThis role requires advanced engineering expertise, documentation proficiency, design leadership, and cross-functional communication skills to support modernization, transformation, and operational excellence initiatives.\n\n QUALIFICATIONS\nBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience\nMinimum ten (10) years of related database technologies experience\nREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS\nCandidates must demonstrate hands-on engineering expertise in the following relational database technologies (on-prem and cloud):\n\nRelational Database Platforms\nMicrosoft SQL Server\nOracle Database\nPostgreSQL (on-prem and cloud variants)\nMySQL\nAmazon RDS / Azure SQL Database / Google Cloud SQL\nCloud Platforms\nAmazon Web Services (AWS)\nMicrosoft Azure\nGoogle Cloud Platform (GCP)\nCore Technical Competencies\nDatabase architecture and engineering design\nHigh Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR)\nPerformance tuning and query optimization\nBackup and recovery strategies\nDatabase security, encryption, and compliance\nMigration from on-prem to cloud and hybrid environments\nLinux and Windows server environments\nScripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python)\nCI/CD integration for database deployments\nDESIRED SKILLS\n\nDatabase containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)\nDatabase monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Redgate, OEM, Cloud-native monitoring)\nData replication and distributed systems\nData warehouse platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse)\nETL frameworks and tools\nInfrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation)\nMassively Parallel Processing database administration experience (MPP DBA)\nAnsible (or similar IT automation tools like Puppet or Chef)\nSupporting federal government compliance frameworks\nKnowledge of Zero Trust architectures\nSupporting mission-critical or high-transaction environments\nPostgres/Greenplum/Cloudberry (used to be Postgres/on-prem and cloud variants\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\nServe as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for relational database technologies\nDocument and analyze current-state (as-is) database environments while promptly coming up to speed\nDevelop comprehensive engineering design documents for modernization, optimization, and transformation initiatives for the database to align with the organization technical vision\nLead implementation of enhanced and future-state database architectures\nDesign, deploy, configure, optimize, secure, and maintain database platforms across hybrid environments\nCollaborate closely with the department engineering teams, including Network, Storage, Windows and Linux Systems Operating, Cloud, Web Services, Software Development, Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO), and DevOps\nPartner with Software Engineers, Data Engineers (ETL), Data Modelers, Data Scientists, and Data Analysts\nEnsure high availability, performance tuning, security hardening, and compliance adherence\nProvide database governance, standards, and best practices across the enterprise\n*A
