This entry-level position involves supporting senior engineers in material characterization, material applications, and component design.Job Description\nJob Responsibilities:\nAssist in the design and execution of material characterization test plans (mechanical, physical, chemical properties) using various standard test methods.\nConduct internal evaluations including macro and micro hardness, metallography, and other testing as required by programs.\nCoordinate external testing at vendors by shipping and receiving test specimens, assigning test conditions, and ensuring testing is completed in accordance with requirements.\nCompile data from material testing, complete data analysis, generate material behavior curves.\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams (Sourcing, Quality, Design, Manufacturing, PrintOps) to execute programs on time and on budget.\nConduct post-test SEM fractography and other evaluations to determine failure modes and validate or invalidate expected material behavior.\nDocument and share collaborative experimental procedures, results, and findings.\nPresent technical data including material behavior curves and statistical conclusions to internal and external audiences.\nAdhere to all safety regulations and quality standards in the laboratory and workplace.\nMinimum Required Qualifications:\nBachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years (specific) experience\nPreferred Characteristics & Qualifications:\nFundamental understanding of material science principles, including crystallography, phase transformations, mechanical properties, and material degradation mechanisms.\nDemonstrated experience with laboratory techniques and test standards for material characterization (e.g., SEM, XRD, TEM, mechanical testing).\nProficiency in data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel).\nStrong problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.\nAbility to work effectively in a broader program team-oriented environment.\nFamiliarity with CAD software and DG&T is helpful for machined specimens.\nGE Aerospace offers comprehensive benefits and programs to support your health and, along with programs like HealthAhead, your physical, emotional, financial and social wellbeing.
