GE Vernova is an American energy company created in April 2024 when General Electric split into three, taking the power, wind and electrification businesses. It builds and services gas turbines that generate a substantial share of the world's electricity, onshore and offshore wind turbines, grid equipment including transformers and high-voltage transmission, and nuclear technology through GE Hitachi and its BWRX-300 small modular reactor. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company sits at the centre of two simultaneous demand shocks: the electrification of transport and industry, and the electricity requirements of large-scale artificial intelligence data centres.

Job Description

University Student Intern - Hot Gas Path Value Engineering & Project Management

Job Description

This University Student Intern role will be a key contributor within the Product Management function supporting the Pivot to Value (P2V) Hot Gas Path (HGP) Value Engineering team. The Intern will support strategic initiatives focused on improving safety, quality, delivery, cost, and capacity across GE Vernova’s Gas Turbine Hot Gas Path product portfolio, including blades, nozzles, shrouds, and near flow path seal (NFPS) components.

Working alongside Product Managers, Value Engineers, Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Repair, Quality, and Field Services teams, the Intern will participate in projects that drive value optimization, cost reduction, manufacturability improvements, lifecycle cost reduction, and execution excellence for HGP parts. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting component-level value engineering while learning how engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, repair, and commercial teams collaborate to deliver customer value.

Value Engineering is a practice focused on identifying and implementing solutions that optimize product value through improved design, manufacturing efficiency, repairability, sourcing strategies, quality enhancement, and cost reduction. The Intern will support these efforts through project coordination, cost analysis, data management, business case support, and engineering-focused problem solving across the HGP portfolio.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support Value Engineering initiatives for Gas Turbine Hot Gas Path components, including blades, nozzles, shrouds, and related high-temperature hardware.
  • Assist Senior Engineers and Value Engineering leaders with project execution related to design optimization, manufacturability, sourcing alternatives, repair strategies, lifecycle cost reduction, and capacity improvement.
  • Gather and analyze cost, manufacturing, field execution, supplier, repair, quality, and operational data to support business cases, project prioritization, and value capture.
  • Track schedules, milestones, risks, action items, financials, and value realization metrics across multiple projects using project management tools, dashboards, and reporting systems.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sourcing, Quality, Repair, and Field Services teams to identify and implement improvements that reduce cost, cycle time, COPQ, and total lifecycle cost while improving quality, yield, productivity, and delivery performance.
  • Participate in value engineering workshops, cost-out ideation sessions, continuous improvement events, and gated Value Engineering process activities from idea generation through execution tracking and value realization.
  • Prepare project reviews, stakeholder updates, executive-level presentations, standard work, process documentation, lessons learned, and best-practice repositories.
  • Learn and apply Value Engineering methodologies, project management principles, cost optimization practices, and engineering-focused problem solving.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, or a related technical discipline.
  • Sophomore standing or above with at least one academic term remaining following completion of the Co-Op assignment.
  • Demonstrated academic achievement and interest in engineering, manufacturing, project management, or operations.
  • Ability to work full-time during the Co-Op assignment period.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in power generation equipment, gas turbine technology, high-temperature components, manufacturing operations, repair processes, and field services.
  • Excellent organizational and project coordination abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, or similar data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with project management concepts and methodologies.
  • Ability to analyze data and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Interest in cost analysis, business case development, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, and industrial equipment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
  • Passion for learning and working alongside experienced engineering and business leaders.

What You Will Gain

  • Exposure to GE Vernova’s Gas Turbine Hot Gas Path product portfolio, Value Engineering organization, and cross-functional cost-out processes.
  • Hands-on experience supporting HGP component value engineering, cost-out, manufacturability, repairability, and sourcing improvement projects.
  • Practical experience with project management, business case development, cost tracking, and value realization across a complex engineering product portfolio.
  • Opportunity to work directly with Senior Engineers, Product Managers, Manufacturing Leaders, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Repair, Quality, and Field Services teams.
  • Experience developing business cases and supporting value creation initiatives.
  • Understanding of how engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, supply chain, repair, and field operations collaborate to optimize product value and deliver customer solutions.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement, capacity growth, operational excellence, and Value Engineering methodologies within the power generation industry.

This Intern position offers a unique opportunity to develop technical, business, and leadership skills while contributing to meaningful projects that improve Hot Gas Path product value, component cost, manufacturability, repairability, quality, and operational execution.
