GE Vernova is a global energy equipment and services company that spun off from General Electric as an independent, publicly traded business. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company operates across three primary business segments - Power, Wind, and Electrification - providing gas, nuclear, hydro, onshore and offshore wind turbines, grid software, and energy storage solutions. GE Vernova partners with utilities, industrial clients, and governments worldwide to drive electrification and accelerate the transition toward sustainable power.

Job Description Summary

At GE Vernova, we are building a more sustainable and reliable energy future. We are looking for a Lead Electrical Systems Engineer to join our global engineering organisation, supporting world class power conversion, automation, and control solutions.

In this role, you will lead the delivery and execution of complex power conversion projects. You will act as the primary interface between project stakeholders, customers, and engineering teams to ensure project milestones are met on time, within budget, and to the required technical standard, while overseeing the integration of systems across the project lifecycle.

This role is well suited to someone with experience in rail, power, utilities, or energy storage, who enjoys solving complex problems and collaborating across disciplines and geographies.

Job Description

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the project engineering workstream, managing technical risks and resolving engineering bottlenecks that impact project delivery
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring technical deliverables align with overall project milestones
  • Coordinate resource allocation and progress reporting across engineering, procurement, and site installation teams
  • Develop and review designs, specifications, and documentation for electrical systems, including:
    • Generators, transformers, switchboards, converters, motors, energy storage, and cabling
  • Ensure engineering outputs comply with health, safety, regulatory, and industry standards
  • Act as the technical focal point, coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Manage the review and approval process for technical documentation, ensuring compliance with project-specific commercial and contractual requirements.
  • Provide technical input to project planning, delivery, and customer solutions
  • Support tendering and sales activities by providing engineering expertise
  • Participate in design reviews, engineering forums, and organisational improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering tools, processes, and systems

What You Bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation Engineering from a local or internationally recognised university. Those with a diploma coupled with relevant electrical and industry experience will be considered.
  • 7-10 years’ experience in Project Engineering within rail, power, utilities, or energy sectors
  • Working knowledge of power systems, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical engineering teams and project delivery stakeholders
  • Ability to read, write, and review technical specifications and engineering documentation
  • Experience with systems engineering and assurance activities such as Safety in Design, HAZOP, FMECA, RAM, and Human Factors would be advantageous, but not necessary.
  • Experience interpreting power system studies and design outputs, including SLDs, protection coordination, load flow, fault studies, harmonics, EMC, and cable sizing would be advantageous, but not necessary.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Customer-focused mindset with commercial awareness
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
  • Proven experience in delivering complex infrastructure projects, including cost control, schedule management, and risk mitigation
  • Strong commercial acumen, with experience managing sub-contractor relationships, vendor deliverables, and customer expectations

Nice to Have

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment
  • Experience working in matrix organisations and with international teams

Why Join GE Vernova?

  • Work on critical infrastructure projects that support the energy transition
  • Collaborate with global experts across engineering and project delivery
  • Contribute to innovative, high-impact solutions in power and energy systems
