The role of Lead Electronic Hardware Engineer gives an excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate to innovate, expand their design skill and personal development within an internationally recognised company in this exciting field. The role has a level of autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. A degree of judgment will be required at this level but can be supplemented by guidance where required. Whilst based at the HVDC Centre of Excellence in Stafford there may be some international travels to collaborate with other GE teams, test laboratories, strategic suppliers and contract customers. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).Job Description\n Roles and Responsibilities\nAble to work to deadlines with a high quality and accuracy.\nDynamic and proactive with ability to work on own or as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to resolve technical issues.\nHas knowledge of HVDC. (Preferred attribute)\nEnsure correct and accurate technical documentation is generated consistent with engineering policies and procedures.\nUses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.\nHas awareness of EHS compliance in design and engineering.\nHas knowledge of digital electronic circuit design and development.\nHas knowledge of analogue electronic circuit design and development.\nHas knowledge of schematic capture supervision.\nHas knowledge of PCB layout supervision including rules & constraints.\nHas knowledge of electronic component selection, analysis, and qualification testing.\nHas knowledge of component level design error testing and analysis.\nHas awareness of Controllership and ROHS/REACH compliance.\nHas Knowledge of FPGA component selection.\nHas knowledge of industrial networks like Profibus, Ethernet, Passive Optical Networks (PON).\nHas experience of product verification (bench testing) and validation (integration testing) testing.\nHas experience of type testing - EMC, Environmental, Halt.\nHas experience of electronic design for EMC.\nHas experience of PCB interactions within power electronics systems.\nHas experience of design for manufacture (DFM), test (DFT), industrialisation & design to cost.\nHas practical electronic bench testing experience.\nHas some knowledge and experience of firmware code development. (Preferred attribute)\nHas some knowledge and experience of model based product development tools (MATLAB, Mathcad,LTspice). (Preferred attribute)\nUse of processes, systems, methodologies and tools to manage product lifecycle challenges such as obsolescence and component lead time.\nHas experience of maintaining legacy products including updates and improvements to extend product life span.\nIs developing their specification & report writing experience and acumen. ¨ Confident with requirements capture principles.\nHas knowledge of design failure mode & effect analysis (DFMEA).\nHas knowledge of failure analysis and root cause analysis. Has the ability to participate in problem solving activities such as 8D or similar.\nAwareness of intellectual property and the patent process.\nLead and provide the key technical direction to small projects.\nInterface with electronics manufacturers and integrators.\nInfluences quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the team.\nOccasional global travel for product validations, product testing and supply chain integration activities.\nRequired Qualifications\nThe candidate requires electronics expertise at graduate level or equivalent experience, with a good level of the technical understanding of digital, and where possible analogue electronic design for an industrial control\nThe candidate should demonstrate a high degree of knowledge and understanding of electronic components & principles.\nThe candidate should demonstrate an ability to think innovatively and apply engineering knowledge.\nAn enquiring mind and desire to learn new skills, an ability to apply different engineering methods and a willingness to share knowledge are essential qualities.\nAt this level it is expected some level of judgment and the ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks.\nHas access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems.
