Job Description Summary

The Project Quality Engineer will oversee and execute all quality assurance activities within the supply chain for GVH Advanced Nuclear projects. This position is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality control and compliance for Advanced Nuclear project procurement. The Supplier Quality Engineer will manage the end-to-end quality lifecycle, from qualifying new vendors and conducting on-site audits to driving process improvements and resolving non-conformance issues. This role requires technical expertise in manufacturing and quality assurance, combined with a proactive approach to collaborating with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supplier Qualification & Surveillance: Assess potential suppliers, conduct on-site audits, and execute supplier quality surveillance programs for new reactor projects.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Define quality requirements, provide technical guidance to ensure adherence to engineering specifications, and oversee the disposition of non-conforming products.
  • Process Improvement: Partner with suppliers to implement defect-reduction strategies and utilize corrective action processes to prevent future errors.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Author and review technical quality documents, plans, and procedures while maintaining rigorous performance records.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a technical liaison between purchasing, engineering, and suppliers to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Travel: Ability and willingness to travel to supplier and customer sites as required (up to 50%).

Education & Experience:

  • Educational Background: Associate’s degree from an accredited institution. (Alternatively, a High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience).
  • Core Experience: Minimum of 4 years in engineering, manufacturing, manufacturing support, or nuclear quality assurance.

Technical Competencies:

  • Quality Expertise: Proven understanding of quality control principles, methodologies, and quality assurance systems.
  • Manufacturing Proficiency: Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and industrial standards.
  • Data & Reporting: Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, performance tracking, and technical reporting to monitor supplier quality metrics.

Professional Skills:

  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with diverse supplier teams.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage competing priorities and successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously.

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

Education & Professional Credentials:

  • Academic Background: Bachelor’s degree in a Science or Engineering discipline.
  • Certifications: Active or prior certification as a Quality Lead Auditor.
  • Nuclear Experience: Minimum of 2 years of dedicated experience in a nuclear quality role.

Technical & Regulatory Expertise:

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of nuclear quality standards, including 10CFR50 Appendix B, NQA-1, CSA N299, CSA N285, and ISO-9001.
  • Code Compliance: Expertise in ASME Section IX (Welding/Brazing) and Section XI (In-service inspection).
  • NDE & Welding: Proven experience in Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) processes and complex welding troubleshooting.
  • Instrumentation & Controls (I&C): Proficiency in analog/digital control systems, pneumatic instrumentation, PLC programming, SCADA configuration, and the safety lifecycle for high-integrity software-based systems.
  • Industry Standards: Familiarity with electrical/electronic standards (IEEE, IEC, IPC, NEMA, ANSI).
  • Quality Inspection: Experience performing rigorous inspections to verify compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.

Industry & Strategic Awareness:

  • Nuclear Business Acumen: Broad knowledge of the nuclear landscape, including key customers, industry programs, and competitive market dynamics.
  • Safety Leadership: Proven track record of exhibiting and fostering a strong Nuclear Safety Culture.

Soft Skills & Interpersonal Impact:

  • Communication & Influence: Exceptional oral and written skills with a proven ability to engage and influence senior leadership at both supplier and regulatory organizations.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to maintaining a customer-focused, high-performance team environment.
  • Drive & Initiative: A self-motivated individual who thrives in rapidly changing, challenging work environments and demonstrates excellent analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Travel Readiness: Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% to support on-site supplier and customer evaluations.
