This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.\nResponsibilities\nProvide nuclear facility safety and safety basis technical support for the management and operation of DOE nuclear facilities at the Y-12 National Security Complex.\n\nEnsure facility safety activities comply with 10 CFR 830, Subpart B, applicable DOE requirements, and nuclear safety standards, including DOE-STD-3009-94 and DOE-STD-1189-2008.\n\nLead and support hazard identification, hazard screening, and hazard evaluation activities for nuclear facility operations and modifications.\n\nPerform and review accident analyses and consequence evaluations for postulated nuclear facility events.\n\nIdentify, evaluate, and recommend engineered and administrative controls to prevent or mitigate potential accidents and hazardous conditions.\n\nDevelop, maintain, and review safety basis documentation, including Safety Analysis Reports (SARs), Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs), and Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs).\n\nEvaluate facility modifications, operational changes, and proposed activities for potential impacts to the approved safety basis.\n\nProvide technical interpretation and guidance regarding DOE nuclear safety requirements, standards, and facility safety practices.\n\nAddress and support resolution of nuclear safety issues, including technical matters identified by the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB).\n\nServe as a Lead Facility Safety Engineer supporting nuclear facility complexes and provide technical leadership for facility safety activities.\n\nInterface with engineering, operations, nuclear safety, management, and other technical organizations to ensure safety basis requirements are appropriately implemented.\n\nReview technical documentation, engineering changes, and facility activities to verify consistency with established safety controls and authorization basis requirements.\n\nProvide technical guidance and recommendations to management regarding nuclear facility hazards, accident prevention, mitigation strategies, and safety basis compliance.\n\nSupport the development and qualification of Facility Safety Engineering personnel through training, coaching, and technical mentoring.\n\nMentor newly hired Facility Safety Engineers in safety basis development, hazard analysis, accident analysis, regulatory requirements, and Y-12 facility safety processes.\n\nMaintain the technical expertise necessary to provide qualified Facility Safety Engineering support for high-hazard nuclear operations and facilities.\n\nRequirements\nEducation & Years of Experience - Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and 15+ years of direct experience with 10 or more years of DOE-specific experience Nuclear/Safety Analysis Engineering.\n\nCitizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.\n\nClearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.\n\nDemonstrated experience providing nuclear facility safety and safety basis support within DOE nuclear facilities.\n\nStrong knowledge of 10 CFR 830, Subpart B - Safety Basis Requirements.\n\nWorking knowledge of applicable DOE nuclear safety standards, including DOE-STD-3009-94 and DOE-STD-1189-2008.\n\nExtensive experience with hazard identification, hazard screening, and hazard evaluation processes.\n\nExperience performing and reviewing accident analyses and consequence evaluations for nuclear facility operations.\n\nDemonstrated ability to identify and evaluate engineered and administrative controls for the prevention and mitigation of postulated accidents.\n\nExperience developing, reviewing, and maintaining Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs), Safety Analysis Reports (SARs), and Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs).\n\nStrong understanding of DOE safety basis development, implementation, and maintenance requirements.\n\nExperience evaluating facility modifications and operational changes for impacts to the approved nuclear safety basis.\n\nFamiliarity with technical and nuclear safety issues associated with the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB).\n\nExperience supporting high-hazard nuclear facilities and operations in a highly regulated environment.\n\nDemonstrated ability to serve in a Lead Facility Safety Engineer or comparable technical leadership role.\n\nAbility to interpret and apply DOE regulations, orders, standards, and nuclear safety requirements to facility operations.\n\nExperience interfacing with engineering, operations, nuclear safety, management, and other technical organizations.\n\nDemonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, guidance, and recommendations on complex nuclear facility safety issues.\n\nExperience training, mentoring, and developing Facility Safety Engineers or other nuclear safety professionals.\n\nStrong technical writing skills, particularly in the preparation and review of formal nuclear safety documentation.\n\nDesired Skills\nPrevious Y-12 National Security Complex experience, particularly developing and maintaining safety basis documentation, is highly desirable.\n\nExperience supporting the 9212 and/or 9215 Complexes at Y-12 is highly desirable.\n\nAbout the Site\nThe NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation’s only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium.
