You will be one of the technical resources our team and clients rely on for complex infrastructure issues, production incidents, escalations, migrations and projects across multiple client environments.\nWe are looking for an engineer who can step into a difficult situation, troubleshoot across technologies, determine the root cause, communicate clearly with the people involved, and remain accountable until the issue is resolved.\nIf you enjoy being the engineer brought in when standard troubleshooting has not solved the problem, this may be a good fit.\nWhat You'll Do\nYou will work across multiple client environments with different technologies, configurations and business requirements. Your responsibilities will include:\nOwn the investigation and resolution of complex infrastructure incidents and escalations.\nAdminister and troubleshoot Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP.\nSupport Microsoft 365 and Entra ID environments, including identity, authentication, MFA and Conditional Access.\nTroubleshoot and support virtualization environments using VMware and/or Hyper-V.\nDiagnose networking issues involving firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, switching and connectivity.\nSupport backup, disaster recovery and business continuity systems.\nPlan and execute infrastructure migrations, upgrades and modernization projects.\nPerform root-cause analysis and implement or recommend changes that prevent recurring problems.\nUse PowerShell, scripting, automation and other tools where they can improve reliability and efficiency.\nCreate and maintain clear technical documentation.\nWork directly with clients, vendors and other GEM engineers during projects and technical incidents.\nProvide occasional onsite support at client locations in the New York City metropolitan area.\nWhat We're Looking For\nWe care more about demonstrated technical depth, troubleshooting ability and ownership than a perfect list of certifications or products on a resume.\nStrong candidates will have substantial hands-on experience supporting production IT infrastructure and personally resolving complex technical problems.\nYou should have strong experience in most of these areas:\nMicrosoft Infrastructure\nWindows Server and Active Directory\nGroup Policy, DNS and DHCP\nMicrosoft 365 and Entra ID\nIdentity, MFA and Conditional Access\nVirtualization and Core Infrastructure\nVMware vSphere/ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper-V\nServer and storage infrastructure\nBackup and disaster recovery\nNetworking and Security\nFirewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing and switching\nNetwork and infrastructure troubleshooting\nSystem hardening, EDR, MFA and related security technologies\nYou should also be comfortable communicating directly with clients and explaining complex technical issues to both technical and nontechnical audiences.\nExperience working for an MSP, technology consulting firm or other multi-client environment is strongly preferred. We will also consider engineers from complex internal IT environments who can demonstrate comparable technical breadth, independence and ownership.\nWorking at GEM\nGEM Technologies is a managed IT and cybersecurity services company supporting organizations with complex technology environments.\nWe are a small, experienced team. Senior engineers at GEM are not confined to one narrow technology or isolated within a large department. You will work across technologies, interact directly with clients and have meaningful responsibility for the systems and environments we support.\nThat environment requires versatility and accountability, but it also provides something that can be difficult to find in a large organization: the opportunity to understand the complete environment, solve challenging problems and have a visible impact on the outcome.\nWe value engineers who are curious, continue learning, share knowledge, document their work and take ownership. We also encourage the responsible use of AI, scripting and automation to improve troubleshooting, documentation and operational efficiency while maintaining appropriate security and protection of client information.\nMuch of the work can be performed remotely. However, occasional onsite work at client locations in the New York City metropolitan area is an important part of the position. Candidates must be willing and able to provide onsite support when required.\nRequirements\nExperience That Will Set You Apart\nWe are particularly interested in candidates with meaningful hands-on experience in one or more of the following:\nMicrosoft Exchange Server and hybrid Exchange environments\nCitrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD)\nCitrix NetScaler / ADC\nAdvanced VMware infrastructure\nAdvanced networking and firewall troubleshooting\nVeeam or similar backup and disaster recovery platforms\nPowerShell scripting and automation\nInfrastructure migrations and major upgrades\nCandidates should bring strong, hands-on proficiency across most of these technologies, with deeper expertise in several areas. We do not expect identical experience with every product in GEM's environment, but this is a senior infrastructure role and requires broad technical capability, demonstrated troubleshooting depth, and the ability to work independently across multiple systems.\nBenefits\nThe anticipated salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000, depending on experience and demonstrated technical capabilities.\nGEM Technologies offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance, paid time off and other employee benefits.\nCandidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
