This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.\nResponsibilities\nDevelop high-quality detailed design packages.\n\nProvide engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs.\n\nProvide expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant facilities.\n\nDesign involves the preparation of conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material and man-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and design engineering deliverables.\n\nWork as a team member of an integrated project team, or as a technical lead for a multi-discipline task and routinely provide input to system engineers and other plant customers.\n\nPerform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.\n\nProvide self-performed technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes, and standards.\n\nInterface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.\n\nCapable and willing to work in a production environment.\n\nRequirements\nEducation & Years of Experience - Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited school and 10+ years of relevant experience with emphasis on Structural Engineering.\n\nCitizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.\n\nClearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.\n\nTechnical expertise and wide applicating of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field of Structural Engineering.\n\nStrong experience with structural evaluations, building modifications, and rehabilitation projects.\n\nExperience performing seismic analysis, evaluation, and structural rehabilitation.\n\nProficiency in structural steel and reinforced concrete design.\n\nExperience designing with multiple construction materials, including structural steel, concrete, and cold-formed steel.\n\nProficiency in developing structural drawings, including plans, sections, details, and construction notes.\n\nStrong experience performing and documenting structural engineering calculations and analyses.\n\nExperience with equipment and machine installations, including structural supports and equipment anchorage.\n\nAbility to prepare engineering reports, design documentation, construction specifications, and technical requirements.\n\nExperience performing or overseeing structural drafting and drawing development.\n\nAbility to develop project scopes, design criteria, design bases, functional requirements, schedules, and engineering budgets.\n\nExperience coordinating and directing multidisciplinary engineering design teams.\n\nStrong knowledge of design reviews, design approvals, configuration/change control, and interdisciplinary design coordination.\n\nExperience reviewing and approving contractor technical submittals and material submittals.\n\nAbility to perform field inspections and field verification to confirm construction complies with approved engineering designs.\n\nExperience providing technical oversight of outside engineering firms and contractors.\n\nAbility to independently plan, execute, and manage structural engineering activities from initial scope through construction.\n\nStrong technical problem-solving, analytical, and engineering judgment skills.\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\n\nAbility to effectively interface with clients, engineering teams, production personnel, support organizations, management, contractors, and craft/hourly employees.\n\nAbility and willingness to work in an active industrial/production environment.\n\nDesired Skills\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license preferred\n\nAbout the Site\nThe NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation’s only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium.
