Performs efficient and effective maintenance activities, in a way that maximizes safe production of quality products, minimizes cost and protects the environment. These tasks are to be performed on a day to day basis following site goals. Level will be determined by skill and ability.\nPosition Title: Maintenance Mechanic - Tool & Die\nLocation: Vonore, Tennessee\nDepartment: Maintenance\nReports To: Maintenance Supervisor\nFLSA Status: Non-Exempt\nPosition Summary:\nThe Maintenance Mechanic - Tool & Die is responsible for maintaining, repairing, fabricating, troubleshooting, and improving tooling used in Genera's molded fiber manufacturing operations. This position ensures dies, molds, fixtures, cutting tools, trim tools, and associated equipment remain in optimal operating condition to support production efficiency, product quality, and equipment reliability.\nThis role requires exceptional mechanical aptitude, precision machining skills, and the ability to work closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Maintenance teams to continuously improve tooling performance.\nEssential Duties & Responsibilities\nMaintain, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild production tooling, molds, dies, trim tools, fixtures, and precision components.\nPerform preventative and predictive maintenance on tooling systems.\nDiagnose tooling wear, damage, alignment issues, and performance concerns.\nFabricate replacement components using manual machine tools and precision measuring equipment.\nModify tooling to improve efficiency, product quality, equipment reliability, and manufacturability.\nInstall, align, and commission new tooling during production changeovers.\nAssist with mold and die setup for production runs.\nPerform polishing, fitting, grinding, welding, and finishing of tooling components.\nWork from engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD prints, and technical specifications.\nMeasure and inspect tooling using precision measuring instruments including:\nMicrometers\nDial indicators\nHeight gauges\nBore gauges\nCalipers\nSurface plates\nIdentify root causes of tooling failures and recommend corrective actions.\nMaintain proper tooling inventory and spare parts.\nAssist Engineering with tooling improvements and prototype development.\nSupport new equipment installation and startup activities.\nComplete work orders and maintenance documentation using the company's CMMS system.\nMaintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.\nParticipate in continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.\nSupport production during scheduled shutdowns and emergency repairs.\nWork overtime and weekends as needed.\nReliable and Predictable Attendance.\nOther duties as assigned.\nRequired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities\nStrong mechanical aptitude.\nExtensive knowledge of tool and die maintenance practices.\nAbility to troubleshoot complex tooling issues.\nExperience working with:\nProgressive dies\nTrim dies\nMolds\nFixtures\nPrecision assemblies\nAbility to operate manual machine tools including:\nEngine lathes\nVertical mills\nSurface grinders\nDrill presses\nBand saws\nExperience with precision fitting and alignment.\nKnowledge of bearings, bushings, guide pins, punches, inserts, springs, and wear components.\nAbility to read and interpret:\nBlueprints\nMechanical drawings\nGD&T\nTechnical manuals\nStrong welding and fabrication skills preferred.\nBasic computer skills.\nAbility to prioritize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.\nExcellent communication and teamwork skills.\nStrong problem-solving abilities.\nCommitment to safety and quality.\nQualifications\nMinimum Qualifications\nHigh school diploma or GED required.\nTechnical certificate in Tool & Die, Precision Machining, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred.\nMinimum 5 years of Tool & Die maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.\nExperience supporting automated manufacturing equipment preferred.\nExperience with molded fiber, plastics, paper, packaging, or high-volume manufacturing is highly desirable.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with:\nCNC machining\nMold maintenance\nHydraulics\nPneumatics\nServo systems\nRobotics\nLaser alignment\nPrecision machining\nLean Manufacturing\nRoot Cause Analysis\nContinuous Improvement methodologies\nPhysical Requirements\nFrequently lift up to 50 pounds.\nOccasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.\nStand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb ladders, and reach throughout the shift.\nWork in hot, humid, noisy manufacturing environments.\nAbility to wear required PPE.\nAbility to work in confined spaces and elevated work platforms when necessary.\nWork Environment\nThis position works in an industrial manufacturing
