This is a hands-on opportunity for a student to gain real-world experience working alongside experienced engineers in a fast-paced lab environment, contributing to the clean energy products that power homes around the world.\nJob Description\nGenerac is hiring a Lab Technician Intern to join our engineering team in Santa Monica, CA. In this role, you will support hardware testing, prototyping, and validation activities for our clean energy product line. You will work directly with engineers in the lab, getting hands-on experience with real products in development. If you enjoy working with your hands, troubleshooting hardware, and seeing how clean energy products come to life, we encourage you to apply.\nThis internship is 5 days a week on-site in Santa Monica, CA.\nWhat You Will Do\nSet up, operate, and maintain test equipment in the lab including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and electronic loads.\n\nBuild cables, harnesses, and test fixtures to support hardware testing and validation.\n\nConduct hardware tests on prototypes under engineer supervision.\n\nDocument test setups, procedures, and results with accuracy and consistency.\n\nSupport engineers in troubleshooting hardware issues and identifying root cause.\n\nMaintain lab organization, equipment calibration logs, and inventory.\n\nFollow lab safety protocols, including proper handling of electrical equipment and high-voltage systems.\n\nTake ownership of a defined project that delivers tangible value to the team by the end of the internship.\n\nWhat You Will Learn\nHands-on testing methodologies for hardware and power electronics products.\n\nHow lab work supports the broader product development lifecycle from prototype to mass production.\n\nIndustry-standard test equipment, instrumentation, and measurement techniques.\n\nElectrical and lab safety practices in a real-world engineering environment.\n\nThe fundamentals of clean energy product development at Generac.\n\nMinimum Qualifications\nCurrently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.\n\nCoursework or hands-on experience with basic electronics, circuits, or electrical systems.\n\nFamiliarity with common lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).\n\nComfortable with hand tools, soldering, and assembling electrical components.\n\nStrong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.\n\nAbility to follow safety protocols and procedures in a lab environment.\n\nClear written and verbal communication skills.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nProject experience working with physical electronics or power systems (academic, personal, or prior internship).\n\nExposure to power electronics or clean energy technology.\n\nFamiliarity with cable harness assembly, fixture building, or PCB rework.\n\nInterest in clean energy technology and renewable energy systems.\n\nPrior internship, co-op, or hands-on lab experience in a technical environment.\n\nOffice Environment\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
