{"id":1716109,"url":"https://alion.io/job/generac-senior-staff-engineer-transfer-switch","title":"Senior Staff Engineer - Transfer Switch","company":{"id":58587,"name":"Generac","domain":"generac.com","url":"https://alion.io/company/generac","size_band":"1001-5000","is_staffing_agency":false,"employer_type":"direct","is_intermediary":false,"listed_via":null,"ats_vendor":"Workday","truth_index":{"grade":"B","score":78,"open_postings":60,"ghost_share":0,"stale_share":0.883,"repost_share":0,"time_to_fill_p50_days":39,"computed_at":"2026-10-10T05:45:15Z"}},"role":"Industrial Engineering","role_family":"Industrial Engineering","seniority":"staff","employment_type":"full_time","work_mode":"on_site","remote_scope":null,"remote_scope_basis":null,"remote_working_hours":null,"hiring_geo_confidence":"structured","locations":["Waukesha, United States"],"countries":["US"],"hiring_countries":[],"hiring_countries_total":0,"salary":null,"salary_estimate":{"min_usd":99000,"max_usd":197000,"period":"year","method":"role_seniority_country_remote_cell","sample_n":1114},"experience_years_min":10,"visa_sponsorship":false,"relocation_package":false,"has_equity":false,"technologies":[{"name":"Microsoft Excel","optional":true},{"name":"SolidWorks","optional":true}],"status":"live","first_seen_at":"2026-05-27T00:00:00Z","employer_posted_date":"2026-05-27","last_verified_at":"2026-10-11T20:05:02Z","board_verified":true,"closed_at":null,"days_open":137,"trust":{"level":"stale","repost_count":0,"flags":["stale"],"days_open":137},"description":"We believe power is a promise - a shared commitment to be there for others when it matters most.\nFor more than 65 years, we've turned big ideas into solutions that help protect homes, strengthen businesses and build a more resilient, efficient, sustainable energy future.\nReady to Power a Smarter World with us?\nThe Senior Staff Engineer-Transfer Switch is responsible for providing engineering input to the product development projects assigned to him/her including interfacing with the cross functional team consisting of engineering, operations (industrial engineering, production, and material procurement), sourcing, quality, service,\nand marketing.\n Essential Duties and Responsibilities:\nDesigns, validates, and brings new transfer switch products to market.\n\nSpecifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates complex components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety.\n\nDesigns, develops, executes and evaluates fitness-for-use testing, product specifications and process validation plans for a variety of complex products and/or components; creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of materials.\n\nCollaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize complex and advanced designs for manufacturability.\n\nUtilizes CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings Supporting product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs)\n\nActs as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers\n\nTravel to other Generac facilities as necessary.\n\nOther duties as assigned.\n\nMinimum Qualifications:\nBachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline\n10+ years of relevant work experience\n Preferred Qualifications:\nAbility to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy on multiple, complex projects\n\nDesign experience with a variety of materials (i.e. plastics, aluminum castings, sheet metal) and basic knowledge of material specs and use\n\nFamiliarity with automatic transfer switches, bypass-isolation switches, and switchgear systems supporting critical power applications\n\nStrong background in new product design and development, design for reliability, manufacturability, cost, serviceability\n\nAbility to conduct analysis using FEA, CFD, etc.\n\nProven experience leading products through certification, agency testing, compliance audits, and regulatory reviews\n\nStrong written communication and presentation skills\n\nAbility to translate technical information to all audiences\n\nMaster’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering\n\nApplies engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services and processes\n\nWell-developed technical skills to include 3D modeling (ProE or SolidWorks)\n\nMS Excel, MS Word\n\nExperience with machine design\n\nPrevious experience using SAP or equivalent ER\n\n Physical Demands:\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.
